Question CAS latency

I want to upgarde my memory but i have been asked what OCZ memory i have got and what my case latency is. What is case latency and how do I find out what it is and what memory chip I have in? I have a Abit AN7 motherboard.

Re: Case latency

It's how fast your case is. Some cases are cheap sheet metal and are very slow, while others are made of exotic materials like titanium and badassium and have incredible latencies.

Re: Case latency

If you go for the badassium case, make sure it's a black one. The beige ones are all poseurs.

Re: Case latency

Whizzkid, we're being facetious, of course. I think you mean CAS latency. It's an acronym, but I'll admit I have no idea what it stands for. To find out, take the memory stick out, and look at it. It will tell you on the label the model number and latency numbers, which will look like four numbers seperated by hyphens, like 5-5-5-12 or something like that.

CAS = Column Access Strobe

RAS = Row Access Strobe

The full explanation.

Whiz,

Your modules are rated for 2.5-3-3-7 operation at 200 MHz (DDR400)

The timings are laid out in the order of CAS-Trcd-Trp-Tras so your CAS Latency rating for these modules is 2.5

Hope that helps.
