Radeon 9500 and CS

everytime I play Counter Strike, I can never view the game menu. whenever I'm in the game and hit escape, it will give me a black screen and all I can do after that is hit the reset button. also, if I get an error for invalid won authentication it will crash my computer since it goes straight to the game menu afterwards. This did not happen to me when I had my gf3ti200. I have the Cats 3.4 installed with the modified ati sys file. I actually just installed the 3.4's and I haven't tested out CS yet. I moved up from the 3.2's. any suggestions as to what might be wrong? I reinstalled my OS and CS from when I moved from the gf3ti200 to the R9500. Thanks guys
