Well, if is doing it on both nVidia and ATI then it is likely to be the program having a limited layering ability. Some programs cannot take one layer and put on many frames, some can only do one layer of text on a video frame at once.
Have done this with still graphics also, laid a layer on top of a stack of things that had not been merged and had the whole program die.
If you do not need moving video under your title, the whole title and background can be done in a graphics program and the graphic stuck in as a frame or copied for 6-8 frames if you only need a short showing of a title and 20 if you need a second or so with normal movies. This will be easier for a program that makes movies to handle, gettting a graphics for a frame predone and handed to it.
If you want a free program for this look at the most recent Open Office, and open it and use the draw program that comes with it to make your title and save as a transparent gif. Paint Shop Pro, Corel Draw, and many others can output transparent background gifs.
