inittab

Ok.. I just want a shell prompt, no GUI except if I really have to.

I changed my /etc/inittab file from runlevel 5 to 3. It fubared the rig and wouldn't boot. Ive reinstalled Redhat 9 again.. and I still have the GUI by default for login.

I RTFM and it just told me to change that line from 5 to 3... I am doing it right? or I am missing some HUGE script thing that I dont know about

seems right to me.... If I remeber correctly isnt there a part section in the RH install that asks if you want a graphical or text login? Also, you can change your runlevel at the prompt with the init command. I forget all the flags and stuff, but it's there. Give the manpage a readthrough.

Changing the runlevel from 5 to 3 should have worked though.....

What exactly went wrong?
(I had to remember to add shhd to runlevel 1 aswell incase I ever need to use it as I always use 3)
