Quake 1? Just run the OpenGL exe for it. That's all I do...

The closest file that I found was called opengl32.dll but it was an extension and not an exe.

Then reinstall Q1 or pull it off the CD. Mine has it, why doesn't yours..

Two things about the GLQuake I installed it and tryed to run it but it said "this application failed to start because glide2x.dll was not found" what exactly does that mean? And it won't let me uninstall Q1 even though the disc is out and I'm not even running it. By the way I have the shareware version of Quake could this be why that file isn't there?

In response to your question YourAmish Daddy I have a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP video card and to be honest I haven't gotten drivers for it since I got the computer, but anyway the driver is called vtmini.sys and it says "May 21, 2007supported"

Ok so download fitzquake but it says I have to have the registered version of the game. I did in fact by the shareware but it said if I registered then I would recieve the registered version of the game.

All you need to do to get Q1 to run on XP is 1) install the game 2) go into video options internal to the game and select OPEN GL instead of D3D which is what the "glide" reference is all about. WinXP does not support Glide 3D but it does support Open GL. At least that is how I remember it. However, have you also tried running it in XP's "software compatibility mode"?

Glide is a alternative to opengl and direct X developed by 3dfx.

Nothing uses it or supports it these days. But alot of old games try to use it as its default rendering api.

If your interested in a program that will let you play glide games on a nvidia or ati graphics card you can get a glide wrapper here
