AMD AM2 Prices Emerge

AMD has finally clued the world in on what they expect you to pay for their new technology. With the AM2 X2 series hitting the 600’s and the Sempron series dropping to the low $100’s it looks as if AMD might be jumping into a price war. The market still without much info on the new chip set prepares for product launch at the end of May.

The chips will be available in May and AMD gave the prices it’s charging. The 64 X2 DC chips will cost $671 for the 4800+; $601 for the 4600+, $514 for the 4400+, $417 for the 4200+; $353 for the 4000+; and $323 for the 3800+.

The small form factor versions will cost $364 (3800+); $231 (3500+) and for Semprons $145 (3400+); $119 (3200+) and $101 (3000+).

    Sign me up for a 14-watt X2 CPU! w00t!

price war? that's BS. nothing looks cheaper than their s939 variants. AMD seems happy to just sit on its prices for months and months. If they were smart they would slash prices on their underwhelming AM2s to generate interest.

AMD is a bunch of freakin retards...where are the cheap dual cores already???

their cheapest DC chip is still the x2 3800+ for $323....what a joke. can't wait for conroe to wipe the floor with AMDs entire lineup. maybe then they will wake the f*ck up!

The cheap dual cores were courtesy Intel, because they had to do something to sell the glut of them in the marketplace. They just weren't moving.

People, millions of them, have been willing to pay AMD's asking prices. Were that not so, we wouldn't have seen Intel's numerous 'fire sales' this last year. Without having to lower prices very much, AMD managed to take a big bite out of Intel's market share the last two years in every category except mobile.

Conroe, yes, I agree, it shows promise. If it lives up to its promise, which I believe it will, you will see AMD price cuts.

I still think AMD's offering will end up being very competive with Conroe, and If it was my choice I wouldn't spend 1 red cent on Intel crap... for desktop CPU's

I hope so. I'd really like to see AMD keep the market share they've gained through superior product offerings. I think though, that Intel has learned their lesson from their blunders since 2003. The market no longer automatically thinks "Intel" with respect to "processor", and Intel is painfully aware of this. I think you will see close to parity between the production AM2 CPUs and Conroe, but it won't be runaway superiority by either manufacturer. Both companies will have to fight very hard to hold market share. But we as consumers will benefit from that. If it hadn't been for AMD's superior engineering and risk taking, all we would have to look forward from Intel would be newer versions of Prescott!

That's way out of my budget, too. But honestly, if you were rolling in dough - wouldn't you go for it? I sure as heck would.

It looks like the budget end Sempy's will be priced for those longing for the old days of cheap CPU's.

That's OEM pricing... I'm not sure how much they will go up for retail. I'm sure Newegg and such will offer OEM CPU's but they need to make a profit.

Still... I'd say a low-end Sempron will still be under $100.... not bad!!!
