Adobe CS4 unveiled
The webcast for the announcement of the next version of Adobe’s sensationally popular Creative Suite series is underway. The newest version, dubbed Adobe Creative Suite 4, includes refreshes to Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, After Effects, Dreamweaver and Flash. Boasting enhanced inter-program communication, a slew of new features and workflow enhancement, the CS4 series will undoubtedly be hugely popular.
While customers can continue to individually purchase full versions of 13 Adobe products, they also revealed details regarding four product bundles:

Priced at $1799 MSRP, this package includes:

Adobe also announced but did not disclose the details of a tiered pricing scheme which will allow the owners of existing Creative Suite products to upgrade for a reduced rate. The firm also released PDFs which detailed the enhancements to the six applications headlining CS4:

The GIMP is not a real replacement for Photoshop.
One could say it's a gimped version of Photoshop.
I never implied it as a replacement. A little taken out of context.
Anyway, I completely agree. In the professional industry, PS and the whole suite is assumed to be used for it's category of software. However, at my consumer level, it gets things done.

The Standard Edition is over $490...
I'll stick with my CS2, still does more than I need it to...
CS4 is actually fairly cheap if you consider the amount of time and effort it goes to produce such a well-polished piece of software. It does what you need it to better than anything else on the market.
