First Android phone launch date set?

The first Android phone to make an appearance will be the HTC Dream. Android is the Open Source operating system for mobile handsets created by Google. The OS is still in its infancy and many are waiting to see if it can challenge the iPhone.

CrunchGear has a source confirming the September 23rd announcement of the phone from T-mobile. The new information provided is rumored color options (black, white, and brown) and the planned retail availability of the phone on October 20th.

Google held a Developers Day in London yesterday, from which we see this video of the handset in action:

    They are also expecting to match the $200 price point and offer up a competitive data plan to go along with it. This should make things interesting for the geek sector, yet not really have any impact on the public sector for some time. The sheer advertising draw for iPhone and apple in general still ensure that most wanna-be's to the market will be crushed before they start.
