Apple pulls AV note

Apparently Apple was just joshing on their AV recommendation. Speaking with Apple spokesman Bill Evans, CNet learned that the entry in the Apple support database was “old and inaccurate.”

Evans repeated the age-old mantra that Apple products were inherently safer in the face of attacks. “The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats right out of the box,” he said. He went on to say that “since no system can be 100 percent immune from every threat, running antivirus software may offer additional protection.”
