DIY Battery Revival (Li-Ion)

Almost everyone has a lithium ion (Li-Ion) battery in their notebook. It’s been the bread and butter of inexpensive and rechargeable laptop batteries for eleventy billion years, but they also have the nasty habit of losing their ability to charge after X number of charges. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

With some wire, a small bulb, a few lengths of wire and some time, you can give your Li-Ion some much-needed CPR. You might even save yourself $100 USD in new battery costs. Check it out: HERE.

  1. For real? Why has this taken so long to make to the Internet. There's got to be a catch. Safety? What's the life expectancy after the battery's been reworked? Fire hazard? Perhaps none of this. It just seems too easy.

3 year warantee baby... 2 years left. That's my fix.

  3. That's basically the same thing Radio Controlled Car guys use on their battery packs. Run them REALLY down then recharge them.

    It looks like this...

Yeah the disclaimer on the site says flat out "Your battery pack could explode", so I'd say safety is a small concern

It says it could increase your battery life 50-75%. the '3 hour battery' in my old lappy only lasts for about 5 min., so I don't think it would really be worth it :/

Same thing happens with my cell phone battery. I wonder if it might work for that.

  7. It could be worse ... we could still be using NiCads.

Up to 2 days depending on the quality of your local burns unit.

  9. if you already have the thing open why not do some diy repair and replace the cells? Most of them just have solder tabs. All you'd have to do is find cells with similar specs and you'd be all set.

And note, another way I've found to run your battery further than what the os will allow is when your computer is booting hit del or whatever key is needed to go into the bios and just let it sit there. I suppose you could also hit f8 and go to the boot options menu.

  10. My, my that is a nice website - thanx for the link!
