NVIDIA marries Tegra to Android
The 2009 GSMA Mobile World Conference is well under way in Barcelona, and all sorts of next-gen phones and technology are sprouting up left and right. Of particular interest to the nerds amongst us is the appearance of an Android-powered phone sporting NVIDIA Tegra hardware.
NVIDIA’s proof-of-concept device harnessed the power of the Tegra APX 2600 platform to produce silky smooth 1080p playback. NVIDIA reps continue to bill a device’s run time at approximately 10 hours under persistent 1080p loads. The reps also claimed that it did not take very long for them to port Android to the beta device, and Engadget reports that the neat little doodad was quite responsive.
Engadget’s gallery for the device is especially compelling. It shows the device running Quake 3, Windows CE, a 1080p TV, and myriad other interesting tasks. The Tegra platform really is a marvel, and phone fans would be wise to cross their fingers for its prominence.
