NVIDIA outs Win 7-specific GPU drivers

nvidiaTagged with version number 181.71, NVIDIA has released a set of x86-32 and x86-64 drivers specifically for the 7000 build of Windows 7. The biggest change is in support for Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) v1.1, but the drivers also contain support for CUDA, PhysX, and SLI on GeForce 8000, 9000 and 200-series GPUs. GeForce 6000 and 7000-series adapters are also supported, but driver support for these models comes with the same limitations attached to any other NVIDIA driver set (no PhysX, for example).

Say what you will about Nvidia's shennanigans over renaming older generation cards and other 'scandalous' behavior, their drivers development team continues to be first class.

I'm wondering if there's a real benefit to running these over the standard x64 Vista drivers that have served me fine so far.

I'll probably give them a shot, worse things have happened.

It can't hurt to try. I would imagine the worst that could happen is that the drivers won't work well and that you simply uninstall them. At least with XP - haven't tried Win7 - the Add & Remove Programs functions clears out Nvidia drivers well should you have a problem. Also, CCcleaner works very well in Vista, so I assume it will work well in W7 also.

The drivers should work well for you. As I worte above, Nvidia tends to be very good with video drivers.
