[Rumor] NVIDIA set to bail on chipset market

It neither looks nor sounds like a duck, but it might be one.

Now and again our news room receives insight that a firm of import is grappling with a decision that could alter the course of their company or a market. In this case, word arrives that NVIDIA is considering the elimination of their chipset business.

Various sources in the Taiwanese motherboard market reputed to be "close to the situation" say that NVIDIA is ready to give up the game. Reports cite the lukewarm reception of NVIDIA's SLI bridge chip for Intel's X58 and the lack of enthusiasm for the NFORCE 7-series chipset.

Still makes for an interesting possibility.

I can't see them tossing in the towel over just a couple mediocre new releases. Their other chipsets, starting with NForce 2, have all done very, very well.
