  1. Thanks for the link. I read somewhere recently (via Digg or Google News?) that a machine running Windows XP with beta sp3 was more than twice as fast as a Windows Vista machine of comparable specs. This included the operating system itself and the execution of applications. They also used some benchmarking software I believe.

  2. So does this mean people should use sp3 or is there much difference from sp2?

Its really up to you, SP3 will make your computer run a bit faster, and more securely, so why not?

Just set yourself a restore point before you install SP3, as a fail-safe if something isn't to your liking...

  4. I really wish they would start getting some things done on vista to make it less ****ty. I don't like having to run vista but I really wanted dx10 (although it hasn't proved to be so great so far). Screw you M$.

On a note relating more to this thread, is there any listing of what sp3 actually does? The link says it changes a few things but no listing of what exactly.

  5. try the pdf file that is available for download.

  6. Ahhhhhhh...didn't see that.

  7. The key for corperations... IT'S A HUGE ROLLUP!!! I maintain the WinXP Patch CD for my division and I'm over 100 patches to bring a system current. That's insane. WinXP SP3 will make my Patch CD much smaller and faster to patch a system.

Oh, and I've also heard that SP3, somehow, boosts performance. Again, why switch to Vista?

  8. I like the non-activated install, which is one of the things they got right with Vista.

No product key required at install - which is awesome

  9. What is the release date for SP3? The link to the MS site doesn't say....

  10. First half of 2008, I don't know any detail beyond that.

  11. Spring... probably March. We'll see if that comes true.
