Several months ago, I received a troubling message from a long-time staff member regarding the new Icrontic logo we unveiled a year and a half ago.
The Fedora is a great symbol – colorful, easily remembered, original, and classy. But it’s current incarnation, sitting on top of the bent over “i” needs help, IMO. It just doesn’t look professional. Keep the Fedora, definitely! But that flacid ‘i’ looks like a freezer-burned asparagus spear about to fall on the letter ‘c.’
This was distressing to me, and I spent many long nights thinking about how best to correct the problem. In the end, I decided a minor revision of the logo was necessary. Tonight, I’ve rolled it out across the site.
As you can see, the new logo features an erect “i” that has a straight back. Also, to reinforce the idea that the dot is the “head”, I’ve connected it to the shaft of the “i” and flattened it slightly to make the resulting character more lovable and cuddly-looking. I tried giving it a stroke too, but that gave the whole thing an unsightly bulge.
Overall, I think the new Icrontic logo gives the site a much more distinguished and virile look. I hope this fresh design is something we can really hang our hat on.
