@cola and I have decided to bring back Wednesday TF2. No matter how many squad-based games come out, they've never quite grabbed on to the Icrontic community like TF2 did. There is just something purely magical about TF2 and it's still going strong. So let's play.

WEDNESDAY, 9PM EST (6pm PST), let's assemble on Discord: http://discord.gg/m5qJP2g. Since we no longer have our own dedicated server we'll have to likely bomb some poor unsuspecting soul's server as a group.

This game is five years old.

I didn't really intend to sit down and play for seven hours straight, really.

But it just sort of happened like that. We started a six man, ranked, surplussed match, and we starting killing robots.

Wave after wave of robots. We fought tanks. We killed giant heavies. We slaughtered robosnipers.

We prevailed through seven rounds of utter terror, despair, and joy.

We lost a war of attrition, as six adults cannot simply continue playing a game this intense for such a prolonged length of time.

@Midga, @CrazyJoe, @PirateNinja, @Cola, and @Mantequilla : We will win. We will do this again. And we shall have hats, my brothers in arms.. Oh, the hats we shall have.

It will be glorious.

The Icrontic TF2 server was up for over 10 years, entirely community funded, and responsible for some of the greatest gaming memories and friendships of my lifetime.

Thank you all for everything! No game has held on longer or had more of an impact on the Icrontic community than Team Fortress 2.

This Tuesday 10/10 marks 10 years of TF2.

I can’t believe this game has lasted this long.

Granted, its been a few years since I played consistently. But its more playtime and enjoyment I’ve gotten out of most games especially FPS.

It marks one of Valves high points and also their transition from a developer to a distributor.

The game has had its ups and downs, but overall, its been a great experience. It’s how I first met Icrontic. I miss the game and community at its high point. Nothing else has really been able to fill that void.

Anyway I digress. My point is I miss TF2 and I miss the league nights. I’ll be on the server 10/10 to celebrate. Hopefully I won't be alone.

I really do try to be nice. I got added by two different players this morning. I accepted their adds and these are the unedited conversations that played out. (I changed their names because it is irrelevant). These are not the first nor do I expect them to be the last.

Warning: I make no promises that this is interesting or even slightly entertaining. I just wanted to share.

{IC} BobbyDigi: Hi there. I am away from my PC currently sending this from teh Web interface. You should be able to reply to me here or if you want to throw me a trade offer, feel free to do so.
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: do u have keys?
DerpNo1: or stranges?
{IC} BobbyDigi: Yup
{IC} BobbyDigi: and Yup
DerpNo1: can i have 1 strange scatter gun
DerpNo1: ?
{IC} BobbyDigi: ...have?
DerpNo1: like ill trade u
DerpNo1: ok?
{IC} BobbyDigi: Sure. I can;t go into the trade interface right now but if you want to offer here or send me a trade offer, I'll consider your offer
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: wait u mean u cant do this
DerpNo1: that?
{IC} BobbyDigi: I'm chatting with you from the web interface. I don't have steam installed on the Computer I am at. If you send me a trade request, I will not get it.
DerpNo1: ohhhh
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: oh i see the web thing
{IC} BobbyDigi: So you can tell me what you want to offer, or you can go to my profile and click on "More" and "Offer a trade"
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: u mean like that how i sent u?
{IC} BobbyDigi: I see the offer
{IC} BobbyDigi: Unfortunately I'm going to have to decline
DerpNo1: well if u want ill give u my awsome strange flame thrower
{IC} BobbyDigi: The strange weapons you chose are worth far more then what you are offering
DerpNo1: nvm
{IC} BobbyDigi: I wouldn't want you to do that, you look like you use that quite a bit
DerpNo1: no not rly i got that like that
{IC} BobbyDigi: Let me take a look in your backpack and see if there is anything that we may be able to make a deal on
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: dude u there?
{IC} BobbyDigi: Unfortunately you don't have anything worth enough to make a fair trade for the Scatter or the Pistol (My revolver is not for trade).
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: but rly dude ur scatter is is regular strange
{IC} BobbyDigi: ...worth 3 refined
DerpNo1: wat?
DerpNo1: dude plz ill give u ANYTHING!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!
{IC} BobbyDigi: I'm sorry, I'm willing to make a deal but even if you traded everything tradeable in your backpack, it would still be less than 3 refined.
DerpNo1: ok ill make 3 refined ok
{IC} BobbyDigi: You've got a lot of untradable weps, make sure not to use any of those
{IC} BobbyDigi: I would trade you the scatter for 3 ref
DerpNo1: ok
DerpNo1: wait dude ill ask some one to give me 3 refined metal for trade ok
{IC} BobbyDigi: Ok
DerpNo1: dude nobody wants anything for the 3 refined metel
{IC} BobbyDigi: I can tell you why if you like
DerpNo1: i asked and asked but every one says no
DerpNo1: wait wat?
DerpNo1: tell me
{IC} BobbyDigi: If you are trying to trade for refined from the stuff in your backpack, you are not going to get 3 refined...
{IC} BobbyDigi: Your flame thrower is worth abotu a refined but you aould have to find someone who wants to buy it
{IC} BobbyDigi: The enforcer is about a reclaimed (1/3 a refined)
DerpNo1: :P
{IC} BobbyDigi: and you have just over 18 craftable tradable weps that you would be able to make another refined out of
{IC} BobbyDigi: that is only 2.33 for everything in your backpack
{IC} BobbyDigi: So unless you find someone feeling charitable to give you metal, you are nto going to squeeze 3 refined out of what you have in your backpack
DerpNo1: dude nvm i quit i could maybe even unbox the strange scatter gun ill ask 5 more people
{IC} BobbyDigi: I wouldn't suggest you give up. I do not mean to frustrate you.
{IC} BobbyDigi: Consider if you are buying keys that you could trade a key for 7+ refined
DerpNo1: well i rly want a scatter gun that is strange u have about 4 or 5
{IC} BobbyDigi: Unboxing is the best way to lose value
{IC} BobbyDigi: Indeed, but I am a gaming community manager and I have been trading for more than 6 years. I understand where you are at, I was there myself once
DerpNo1: idk wat u mean?
{IC} BobbyDigi: It takes time to trade up for the things you want. If you are willing to buy keys though, unboxing is not the way to get what you want
{IC} BobbyDigi: Unboxing is a roll of the dice at best
DerpNo1: ok
{IC} BobbyDigi: If you have the ability to get a key, you could trade that for 7 refined, buy your scatter for 3 refined and have 4 refined left over
DerpNo1: dude im getting keys at march 1st
DerpNo1: im trying my BEST TO GET a strange scatter gun
DerpNo1: my best
{IC} BobbyDigi: Ok, well I am more then willing to help you through the process once you have a tradable key
DerpNo1: hmmm
DerpNo1: well...
DerpNo1: nvm
DerpNo1: dude im probley about to get a key

Thought I would share with my family here a huge project I've got going on. I have never deleted something out of my backpack. Whenever I come across a crate, it would go into storage. Some of you threw crates at me during our weekly scrums, at the time I accepted them for the lulz. But the collection grew and it is to the point now of taking up... well 480 spots in my backpacks. To give you an idea of the magnitude of this, in a typical week, a typical TF2 account that plays it's maximum amount of hours (thus maximum amount of drops) pulls down 4-5 crates. A typical TF2 backpack has 300 slots.

So I have listed the collection for sale/trade. I've been bumping the thread and have a current offer of 26 refined. I will be posting it on multiple trade sites this week and we will see what happens. I'll be closing the offers and selling to the highest bidder next Monday the 16th.

To all the Icrontic TF2 clan, anyone else notice a major drop in frames per second? I have to be down to less than half of what I'm used to, and dipping below 60 FPS on my hardware does not make much sense. I have looked about online, got out of the steam beta program, removed the game deleting all config files and re installing, checked my settings, even pushed texture settings and AA and AF settings down and it's still wonky. Updated my graphics drivers, did a clean driver install. I suppose this is a problem since the latest update but I'm curious if others are experiencing it here and if anyone has any suggestions on a solution. It is hard to enjoy right now as it is.

Okay so last year we did thing where we would pick maps that we want to play each week and set the order. I thought it was fun and figured we'd bring it back. As it stands now our map rotation will still the same. So let's spice it up and pick maps that we want to play each week.

Depending on which maps we can get through 5-8 maps.

Next week lets start with just stock maps and eventually start working in some custom maps.

Twas the night before League, when all through the site
Not a member was stirring, not even @Cyclonite.
The servers were updated by the admin with care,
In hopes that his minions soon would be there.

The defenders were nestled all snug in their Red,
While visions of Hoodoo danced in their heads.
And Prime with his stickies, and I with my strange gun,
Had just settled in for a long Dustbowl run.

When out on the forum there arose such a clatter,
I refreshed the page to see what was the matter.
Away to the console I flew like a flash,
Tore open the code and called up the Stats Dash.

"Now @Marshmellow! now, @Butters! now, @_k and @Massalinie!
On, @Karma! On, @Signal! On, @FettBacon and @GnomeQueen!
To the top of the hill! to the top of the wall!
Now uber her! Uber him! Ubers for all!"

And then, in the distance, I heard as I run
The whirring and turning of @RyanFodder's minigun.
As @pigflipper drew his bow, and was turning 'round,
Down @pragtastic's bullet came with a pound.

@BobbyDigi was dressed all in hats, from head to toe,
And his taunts were the finest, 'twas quite the show.
A bundle of rare weapons he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, proudly showing his sack.

Blue spoke not a word, but went straight to their work,
And captured the first point, then turned with a jerk.
And spying a turret surrounded by foes,
Went all-Pyro, shooting naught but rainbows!

@oni_dels raised his beer, and @Ilriyas his liquor,
while @Jokke and @Tushon prayed to spawn quicker.
And @Strikes and @Farge and @Requit were runnin',
As @trooster89 quietly asked... "Are you from London?"

As some of you may know, I love me some TF2. I love talking about TF2, I love playing TF2, I love writing about TF2, I love collecting and trading TF2 items.

It gets tough to talk TF2 while we are playing though. I don't know who is talking to me and I miss questions or offers because I am playing or answering someone else's question or others are using the voice chat for... you know, the game at hand.

So here is a thread for all around questions including but not limited to:

You want to acquire a certain item or an item of a certain quality?

You want to know how much something is worth?

You want to know if the random guy who added you is offering a fair trade?

You want to give me crates. I like crates :D Please don't delete them D: (FYI: I rarely open them, I hoard them)

You want to know how you can give back to the IC TF2 community?

You want to know what weapon sets go together well or for your particular favorite class?

I know a few of you have questions, I am happy to answer them. If it is a valuable answer I will copy the information gathered into the OP here so we have an ever growing list of information. Some of you may be uncomfortable asking a particular question in front of other players, in these cases please do not hesitate to PM me your question and I will be happy to keep our conversation private.

Ask away!

Of note: I am a collector. I trade for way more stuff then I 'sell'. Because of this, the prices I keep up on are how much items sell for and not necessarily the most you can get for them.

Item finding: Basically if there is an item you yearn for, just let me know. I can let you know an idea on what it will take to get it. If you are cool with the going price, you provide me the metal/keys/whatever, I'll pick it up for you asap, then I send it your way along with any change (I'm not looking to profit off you guys, just help in the process). Smaller items I can usually pick up (after we agree on a price you are willing to pay me back) and then we can direct trade item for what I paid.

Basic definitions:

black market - any trades or sales involving goods or currency taking place outside of the Steam Trade window. For example any trade where someone paypals someone money for an item is a black market transaction
a wep - any craftable weapon
a scrap - Scrap metal, made by combining 2 craftable weapons
rec - short for Reclaimed or a Reclaimed metal, made by crafting 3 scrap
ref - short for Refined or a Refined metal, made by crafting 3 rec
key - MannCo crate key. Available for purchase in-game for $2.49, sells on the black market for quite a bit less

Metal decimals: The trading community has settled on a way of expressing amounts of metal in decimals. Most of the time referred to in Refined metal.
1 Refined metal is 3 Reclaimed metal making 1 Reclaimed = .33 Refined
1 Reclaimed metal is 3 Scrap metal making a Scrap = .11 Refined

Unusuals: I do very little in the way of Unusual hats. Like all items, prices are driven by supply and demand. Unusuals in general, by their own nature, have quite small supply so the value is pretty much based on the demand for the particular hat combined with the demand for the effect.

Real World Money: (As of 07/31/12)
Black market key price: $1.40
Key value in metal: 2.66 ref

As of 12/27/15
Key value in metal: 17.44 ref

Guys, this is HUGE.

Hidden beneath the massive Meet the Pyro update, this video slipped out introducing what Valve are calling Source Filmmaker. This tool was developed and used for not only all of the "Meet The" videos, but as well as every other cutscene that Valve has created for their various games, in addition to in-game sequences.

Just watch this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zri1c_If6Ic

This is a massive paradigm shift. Filmmakers in Hollywood have been trying for YEARS to have a proper real-time animation and graphics pipeline, and it hasn't been until recently that they sort of accomplished this. Valve's been doing this since 2007 like it was no big deal.

The included animation tools are fantastic. Outside of a professional program, they're some of the best I've seen. And the fact that everything can be done and captured in a multiplayer game environment, and THEN tweaked, makes this an end-all be-all solution for machinima.

Asset creation is one of the most difficult barriers for entry when it comes to animation. But think of what Source Filmmaker means to potential artists when it's directly tied to Steam Workshop. There are thousands and thousands of assets to use, with more being created by the day in an endlessly evolving world of resource tied around a central architecture. Valve is changing gaming as we know it with TF2. They've created a massive ecosystem that continuously changes and ties back into itself. The sheer implications of all that they've done is mind boggling.

Five years after TF2's release, and the real fun is just getting started. I can't even wrap my mind around it.

PASS time is a new game mode in TF2. It is a collaborative effort of the developers at Valve, Bad Robot and Escalation Studios

From TF2 Blog

About PASS Time

RED and BLU face off in an epic battle to score more goals than their opponents. Coordinated passing, aerial shots, interceptions, team-based formations and plays, defensive lines and the like make for strategically chaotic play.

Ball-Carrying

The "jack" is a ball that, when carried, replaces your weapons. Teamwork is key in protecting the jack-carrier. Pass and shoot with your primary fire. Pick up and intercept by simply touching the jack. Melee an opponent carrier to steal. Carrying the jack also gives that player the following boosts:

Health: regeneration

Invulnerability: temporary when you steal (with melee) or intercept the jack

Speed: temporary increase when you first gain possession

Vision: see both teammates AND opponents on the map

Strategy

Passing
A critical aspect of PASS Time play. Team-based passing is a surefire way to get the ball away from your goal, and into your opponents', as quickly as possible.

Coordinated Team Play
In PASS Time, it’s vital to play as a team. Lone wolf runs don’t stand a chance against a united front.

High-Flying Action
PASS Time introduces speed boosts and jump-pads. Nothing beats the rush of a mid-air shot-on-goal or interception.

Defense!
A balance of offensive and defensive strategy is key. Goalies can be the difference-makers in PASS Time.

Sudden Death
As with most sports, try not to die. Especially if the match ends in a tie—'cause that’s when true Sudden Death kicks in.

Letter from Bad Robot:

Thanks, guys. And hello to the TF2 community! As massive fans of all things Valve and TF2, we've been thrilled to work with them, and the deft developers at Escalation Studios, to present this super early look at PASS Time. And now we're extremely excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with you, the players! Your feedback will be critical to making this mode, at very least, worthy of the game we all love. So, many thanks for hitting us up at passtime@valvesoftware.com with any and all thoughts. Here's hoping that, together, we can create something special that the community will enjoy as much as we've enjoyed just getting to this point!

This season we have our normal League badge, but this time it's leveled. There are 20 possible levels. Each level is +5 points, except the 20th (max) level which is +25.

Every week there will be 1-3 challenges. You level up for each challenge you complete. The goal is to have 30+ challenges thru our 15-week season so there is ample opportunity to catch up if you miss a week (or can't / don't want to do a particular challenge).

We'll announce new challenges the day of the league game. The challenge for Week 1 was simple: Show up! Everyone who came and played gets level 1.

TO LEVEL UP YOU MUST CONNECT YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT. That lets me automate as much as possible because it associates a SteamID with your username here.

To level 20!

The fifth season of the League of Extraordinary Icrontians will be a little different.

First, we're moving to Wednesday nights. Second, we're slating a 4-hour timeslot from 9pm-1am EST / 6-10pm PST to catch more of you passing thru. And third, the season ends with Expo. That's right, it's just 15 weeks long.

We're doing this to focus participation on a limited span of time, but also because we're going to be doing some meta gaming this year. In the past, we've given an Icrontic badge for anyone who shows up to any League night. This year, we'll be expanding on that concept. Things like how much you play and what you do while on the server will be counted. We're still finalizing these plans and will announce details on opening night.

Need reminders? The Icrontic Calendar (XML, iCal) is here to help.

And fear not, the rest of your year will not be TF2-free. There will be a Fall 2015 series event as well.

We're seeking assistance to overhaul the server in time for opening night. I'm guessing a full reinstall & fresh copy of Sourcemod will be needed. If you're game, please contact @primesuspect and/or me.
