I haven’t been on the site for a long time, but here I am, back with an IT question. I am maintaining a scientific instrument (NMR spectrometer), at a university. This instrument transfers all data it collects to a shared drive provided by the university. Everyone who is logged into the university network can access the drive, read and write.

I would love to have a calendar that I can put on that drive so that everyone can access it, read and write. People would use it to book instrument time, for example block out 28 June from 8am to 11am, so they can run their experiments undisturbed.

We have previously used Google Drive. The spectrometer had its own Google account, everyone had the user name and password, and could access the calendar of that account. That doesn’t work anymore, because Google doesn’t like 30 people with different devices sharing one account. Authenticating the users has become a nightmare.

What can I use as replacement?

Advanced Micro Devices’ quad-core processors will be demonstrated as early as in the middle of this year and, perhaps, will be unveiled even earlier than expected according to some analysts. But the most intriguing claim is that the forthcoming chips with four processing engines will be demonstrated on currently available platforms, a departure from the plans implied originally.

I keep a backup of important files on a USB harddrive, but I'd like a separate solution in case it fails.

I'm not looking for massive space, 10-15 gigabytes. Preferrably I'd like software that will run itself at set intervals, and backup a folder of my choosing. I'd also like to keep backups from several computers on the same account, if possible.

Secondarily I'd probably use it as a file transfer service, so I'm not dependent on bringing physical media with me to transfer files. Recovery/download of selected files would have to be fairly easy.

Data security is a priority, as I'd keep backup of bank records and such.

Do any of you have recommendations for any providers that can be trusted?

I was pleasantly surprised to find the quality of the material was much higher than expected. It has a soft, but sturdy feel, and it doesn’t crease or wrinkle.

It was for a trading bot, and I remembered I had a bitcoin account somewhere - I think I put in $60 a while back, and it was like $350? Nice! I did the tutorial but then was too scared to try it with my newfound vast crypto fortune. /s

I've been poking around different parts for a bit, shortlist:

1. Bought into an ASIC preorder, then multiple companies beat them to market. So we'll see how that works out in June. Would be a fail...but the manufacturers have some sort of relationship with the Sia coin devs... and Sia coin devs threatened to fork Sia...just to brick everyone else's ASIC but the one their friends made / discussed with Sia before starting to build the first ASIC on the coin. If that happens, then it'll be great for me. If not, lesson learned, but that 400-day ROI will sting.

2. I've been using Gekko, and loading it with strategies I find on github for backtesting, just to see how people think about trading, and maybe learn why they do the things they do. I found a side program that will do genetic-algo and run the simulations over and over again, I've been letting the program "evolve" 2 simple strategies I like / can understand, changing the variables just a little each time. Testing against USDT-BTC since Jan 1 seems like a decent mix of situations, and they look pretty good! Too afraid to let Gekko trade with my real money yet, though...I only have $350 to play with

3. Some of the strategies people make use neural nets and other really complex stuff! Most do terrible, but I haven't tested them beyond the default setting. These complex strategies run slowly and make gekkoga time out. I found a js package that can offload batch calculations to the GPU, but I don't know js well enough to use it

4. Found a decent podcast I can fit into my commute (if I play it at 1.25x speed, which is a little strange sometimes). He goes through some basic and moderately complex stuff around Technical Analysis, but he does it in a nice way.

How 'bout you? Anybody know what they're doing around here / have anything interesting happen in the space?

I am living in a house which has ethernet sockets installed in almost every room of the house. These are all connected back to a router which is installed in a locked cabinet located in my garage, which I do not have access to. This was installed by the developer when building the house and home owners are not given keys to access the cabinet. While I was connected to a FTTH service, I was able to utilise all the ethernet connection points within the house to gain access to the internet.

I have now cancelled my FTTH service and am now using a 4G wifi modem router with a 4G sim card as my home internet.

My question is, is there any way for me to be able to use the ethernet connection points around my house if I am accessing the internet via a 4G sim card.

The screen is totally shot, but the phone seems to be functional otherwise. When I charge it up, push the power button, it comes on, does the little buzz, and the soft keys light up but the screen does nothing.

I have already removed the microSD card and luckily her photos were there and I was able to recover them, but she wasn't saving her contacts to Google, so they are still on the inside of the phone. This is the only other piece of data that she really wants.

Is there any free or really cheap ways to recover the contacts from the phone? It has been a long time since I've been mirroring an android screen to my laptop and it doesn't seem to work like it used to.

Details on her phone: Samsung S7, verizon model, debugging mode is not turned on, I have zero knowledge of what version of android is on her device, I'm hoping she actually kept the auto-updates on.

Something is making my MS edge look really funky. I checked out AVG, and no virii g
I deleted all the history etc, and it's still an issue. There used to be a prompt that mentioned I had a virus, but I must have gotten rid of it by accident when I deleted a bunch of stuff with hijack this.

Also, chrome displays websites perfectly fine.

At anyrate, what could this be?

I want to upgrade to Version 1709, but I want to download the upgrade on a different computer (I am on a metered data plan and I do not want to have to pay for the 3 GB upgrade--I can download on my office computer at no charge).

I know it is not that difficult, and I have done it before, but my Google skills have failed me. I just want an update, not a clean install.

Can anyone provide a link and simple instructions for creating an ISO or whatever is the best way to update?

I can copy to the phone and I can copy/paste from all other media (flash drives, Ext drives other partitions etc). to the PC....... Can't find any info about this specific problem anywhere and just hoping someone here might have some ideas? Many thanks to anyone who can help

1. Spring based force measurement device that somehow is attached to weights or the razor blade and pushes the blade into rayon thread. Jot down the number of Newtons, or whatever, it takes to finally slice through that thread. The lower the force required, the sharper the blade.
2. Use a printer to push paper in to a clamped blade and under a microscope see how clean the cut was on the paper. Sadly this does not result with a number, which would be more ideal.

Neither of these ideas are great. #1 is bad because it would be hard to use for comparing different blades. I would need to apply the exact same amount of force, in the exact same increments, and keep blade/thread at the same angle. It's not a realistic experiment without precision machining. Meanwhile, the printer idea although easy to setup for consistency, does not provide a numeric outcome.

So ... I am wondering if any of you actual engineer/science people have thoughts on this.

This will be the 12th flight of the Dragon 1 spacecraft and the tenth mission under the CRS contract (designated CRS-10/SpX-10) and is the first flight of a Falcon 9 or Dragon from Space Launch Complex 39A. SLC-39A was originally built to accommodate NASA's Saturn and Nova rocket families and was previously used to launch every manned mission to the moon. The pad was later adapted to launch the Space Shuttle and was used to launch 82 and out of the 135 missions conducted over the course of the Space Transportation System (STS) program. SpaceX began a 20-year lease of the launch complex in 2014 and has upgraded it to service its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. CRS-10 is slated to arrive at ISS at 11:30 UTC (06:30 EST) on February 22 following a three day rendezvous phasing profile.

CRS-10 is heavily-laden with science payloads with cargo with 1530 kg of pressurized cargo and 960 kg of unpressurized cargo. The flagship payload for this mission is the SAGE-III Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment, the fourth generation of a series of Earth observation payloads intended to discern changes in the composition of Earth's atmosphere and provide critical evidence to inform policymakers of our planet's continually-changing nature.

This mission was previously delayed from 2/18 due to an anomalous response in a redundant upper stage thrust vector control actuator. A redundant system of these fueldraulic servos are used to steer the upper stage during its powered flight phase. Even though the anomalous actuator is used in a redundant system, SpaceX decided to forego their earlier launch opportunity out of an abundance of caution rather than fly with decreased redundancy.

The weather is forecast to be 70% favorable for the 2/19 launch attempt with scattered clouds and moderate winds. The launch window is instantaneous due to the nature of the spacecraft orbital injection and as such any delay or hold will result in at least a 24-hour delay. In addition to the primary mission of delivering the Dragon spacecraft safely to its rendezvous with ISS, SpaceX will attempt to return the first stage booster to its prepared landing site at LZ-1 (formerly Cape Canaveral SLC-13). This will be the third attempted landing at LZ-1 after two previous successes and the first attempt to occur during daylight hours. This will be a morning launch providing good conditions for the launch and first stage recovery attempt. SpaceX will be providing live streaming coverage of the launch on their webcast at http://www.spacex.com/webcast/ and NASA will also be streaming the launch on their feed at http://www.ustream.tv/nasahdtv .
