Help! Can't get rid of Qoologic trojan!

My computer has been infected with the Qoologic trojan and I've tried
everything I could on my own to get rid of it with no success. I've run
Adaware, Spybot. HiJack this and AVG Anti-Virus. My Google Seaches get
redirected to various other Search sites, pop-ups and I'm having a problem
with the address bar sometimes. AVG Virus scan finds the files and
deletes them but they come right back on reboot. Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's my HiJack this log and rkfiles contents with their corresponding
lookups from http://virusscan.jotti.org/:

    Am not really seeing any evidence of qoologic there. Try this;

    Please Download the following tools to assist us in finding this infection!
    • Download WinPFind
      • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
      • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
      • Dont do anything with it yet!
    • Download Track qoo
      • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop

    Reboot into Safe Mode
    Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

    Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
    • Click "Start Scan"
    • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
    • Once the Scan is Complete
      1. Go to the WinPFind folder
      2. Locate WinPFind.txt
      3. Place those results in the next post!

    Reboot back to Normal Mode!

    Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

    Note - If your Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Window asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to run, its harmless!

    Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

    Thanks Crunchie! The AVG Anti-Virus program labeled this as the Qoologic trojan but who knows what it could be. Here are the results:

    WinPFind Results:

    WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

    If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

    Right after I posted this, Zone Alarm firewall caught this app trying to access the internet: C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\pcs_0026.exe
    I blocked it's access to the internet in Zone Alarm program controls.

    Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

    Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

    IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

    Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

    From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

    IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

    You have a few more entries there that need removing.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

    O16 - DPF: {972BB342-14A7-4660-83C1-51DDBEE171DB} - http://www.pacimedia.com/install/pcs_0026.exe

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    Search for...

    ALCXMNTR.EXE

    ...using "Start | Search...".

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

    Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "Enable all protection".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

    Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Thanks Crunchie, I think the computer is ok now. Pop ups seem to have stopped and Google searches are not redirecting. Can you tell me the name of the adware/spyware I had on my computer? I'm curious. Thanks again!

    Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

    Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

    Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

    Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
    Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

    Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

    Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

    Clear your Temp folders.
    Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
    Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

    Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
    delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

    Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

    Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

    In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    For XP users.
    After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
    To flush the XP system Restore Points.

    Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

    When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
    On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

    Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

    Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

    Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

    ===============

    If you have any more problems, post back.

    Happy surfing,

    crunchie.

    I too have had to QOOLOGIC.AI,AL,AO,BJ for the last week. Don't know where it came from or how it got on my system. I have looked high and low and googled and searched for a fix. NOTHING!!!!!

    I have used Housecall,Symantec, a squared, panda, ad aware, spybot s&d, L2Me, hijackthis but to no avail.....FINALLY, I found this QOOFIX from http://www.besttechie.net/tools/Qoofix.zip.

    Here are my WinPFind, Track qoo, hijackthis, and Qoo fix text logs.
    Please let me know if my "TROUBLE" is gone.
    Thanks!!!!!

    • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
    • Click "Make New Folder"
