Star Wars Episode VII Discussion

Star Wars Episode 7 to feature Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron, NO NO NO KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!
Yes you heard it right J.J. "Story murderer" Abrams is casting Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron.....In Star Wars!
Zac Efron as Jacen Solo (Han's son) and
Ryan Gosling as Ben Skywalker (Luke's son)
The question is, why? Is it Disney being well.....Disney, or is it the fact Abrams just can't direct Sci-Fi and make something that the diehard fans will like. Or possibly does Disney just not care about anything other than money. The point is, and I hate to say this but Lucas could have done better, hell two hours of a movie about a lobotomized Jar Jar Binks would be better, yes you read that right two hours of the dumbest character in the history of the franchise made dumber by a frontal lobotomy, would be better than this!

Efron's primary sin seems to be becoming famous as a Disney teen idol and his "chick flick" resume. My only exposure to him was Hairspray, and I didn't come away with a negative opinion of him.
Let me remind you that the choice of casting the lead children for E1-3 was possibly the worst acting choices in the history of acting choices, so I'm really unconcerned about Disney doing any worse.
I mean: It's a new film. They have to cast today's popular actors. They would never, no matter who they choose, live up to what the diehard Star Wars fans want, so why bother even trying? Besides, this movie is not being made for Star Wars fans. It's being made for the general moviegoing public.
Personally, after seeing what Disney has done with the Marvel films, I'm willing to trust them with Star Wars.

Why the rage? Yes, at first glance I'll admit I was a bit, "huh?", too. But, this is my own prejudice and disdain for many (not all) of the movies they've both been involved in. Are they big time action stars? Not really, I don't personally think so. Do they seem "too pretty" to do a sci-fi film? In my opinion, yeah kinda. Do I think that they could meet my expectations of what Star Wars was when I was a child? Hell no.
But, my immediate opinion was complete nonsense. I had already written them off before giving them a chance. The truth is they're actors, and pretty damn decent ones. The only reason I didn't initally want to see them in these roles is because I've never seen them in this type of role before. I say, "ef it, let's give them a shot!" They did past movies that best suited them at the time they were presented. Now's a chance to be part of a legacy that spans multiple generations of fans (both new and old). They're aware of the expectation laid upon them and I highly doubt that they're going to ignore it and just "willy nilly" their way through it, same with J.J.A.
Let's give it a chance to succeed before crying fail immediately.
Edit: Apparently I missed seeing Signal's reply with link
What I'll say, both young good looking fit guys. One can sing and dance pretty good. I mean Ray Park was a ballet dancer and it worked into the best choreographed saber fight in the entire series.
My fear is this.... You will miss Lucas when his influence is gone. Don't give a shit what anyone says here, the man is a visionary, a complete genius. Star Wars is a little hokey on purpose. It's part of what it is, embrace it. Making a more hip, modern version of Star Wars, while it may be entertaining in spots it will no longer be Star Wars.....
I get your Lucas sentiment though and good ref on the ballet dancer/saber fight choreography.
I am open to whatever they do to produce new star wars films because they are producing more star wars films.
