Keys go in jacket pockets, or in back right if I have no possible jacket to store them in.

Hipster jeans don't accommodate keys. They clip to a belt and get stuffed in the back left pocket for 10 minutes a day. Otherwise they go on my desk at work, or in a bowl at the door at home.

God are we really playing this game.

Purse: (Girl pants usually do not have usable pockets, especially dress pants. It is total BS-- although I know that the amount of things I regularly carry around could not fit into my pants.)

    Phone
    Wallet
    Keys
    Chapstick
    Kleenex
    Hand sanitizer
    Eye drops
    Pills
    Hair brushes
    Microfiber Cloth
    Tampon/pads
    Pens

Other assorted things usually found in my purse but do not have to be there:
    Lip gloss (es)
Random papers I need for something or other
    Receipts
    General schmutz
    Cough drops
    Chargers
    Hand lotion
    Ipad
    Laptop
A tiny gnome figurine holding a briefcase

    Edit:
    Forgot--
    Two hair ties
    Band-aids
    Tide Stain pen
    Business cards.

    Wrist: Watch
    Front right pocket: Phone
Front left pocket: Business card case (also contains RFID card to get into the college)
    Back right: Wallet
Back left (or left cargo, if present): handkerchief or pack of travel tissues (depending on expected nose blowing volume for the day)

My key ring is just one key, a small charm, and a tiny flashlight, and it goes in a different place depending on where I'm going and what I'm wearing there, and if I'm not the one driving, I don't take it with me at all.

Back in high school, I used to carry a lot more stuff around every day. A veritable utility belt of geeky crap, including all of the above plus a multi-tool; a PDA (phones didn't cut it as PDAs yet); a pocket watch; a lot more keys, including some that didn't go to anything at all; a buck-knife (in case the knife on the multi-tool wouldn't cut it); clip-on sunglasses; a travel-bottle of hand sanitizer; and a small leather dice bag filled with various trinkets which were non-practical. All of this crap was attached to a wide police-style black belt or stuffed into cargo pockets, which all of my pants had.

One of the changes I made in my life when I started college was to cut back on all the shit I carried around with me every day. It took a lot of will-power, and it happened very slowly, piece-by-piece over many years, the last to go was the multi-tool, which I finally stopped carrying four years ago, when I switched from belts to suspenders for comfort reasons.

So now my question is looking at this, are the people with wallets and phones on the left left handed? If not it's there a reason you choose that pocket?

  • SonorousSonorous F@H Fanatic US

I am right handed and use my left pocket to keep my phone from getting scratched by randomness shoved in my pocket on job sites.

Front zipper of purse: Contraband. Usually an assortment of pens and sharpies stolen from work. Also, a lone strawberry hard candy, for when I'm 60 and this becomes mandatory anyway.

Back pocket of purse: I always carry napkins with me, because you never know. I carry an emergency teabag for the same reason. The black thing is a pocket knife that Dan makes me take with me everywhere, and then the rest is basically misc. There's a flier for a friend's band, and some movie ticket stubs right now. Side note: Noho 7 is probably the coolest movie theatre ever...

Purse side pocket: Extra hair ties and bobby miller pins. This is extremely important if you're about to embark on a trip with more than two girlfriends, because one of them will be asking you for a hair tie at some point, and you will end up looking like a bitch if you have two in your hair and won't give them one.

Front pocket inside purse: Lip gloss, mints, gum, lotion, a nail filer, and a notepad for taking notes. Also some hand salve, because hands are among the first parts of your body to start showing age.

Main pocket of purse: My wallet, my brush, my keys, and my phone (not pictured).

Phone pocket inside purse: A lens cloth, a compact mirror in the stylings of an oreo cookie, and a purse hanger.

Inside zipper: This is my medical supply pocket. I always carry pain killers, antacids, motion sickness pills, and whatever prescription BS I'm taking at the moment. Bonus info: my doctor gave me the antibiotics in that white envelope completely for free! Yay for awesome doctors!

Wallet: Well... License, debit card, gifts cards, rewards cards, TWO bus passes in case my sister comes to visit and I want to show her around the city with reckless abandon, pictures of loved ones, business cards (notice @primesuspect's sweet Shinola card), money (including a Canadian bill that I traded @Illriyas some White Castle for), and change (including a random pound).

Outside of purse: Pins, my sweet yelp bottle opener, and key chains.

    My hand: My ring.

    My face: My glasses.

... And yes. I do realize that I spent an inordinate amount of time on this, but Dan's not home, so I can't eat dinner yet.

    A bag of hope.

    Eyes full of doubt.

The body of a man I no longer relate to.

Hands that both tear at and heal the world around them.

    And love.

Somewhere, at the edges, love. You see a hint of it when I smile at you.
