I know -forceasm helps out AMD machines by 30% when coupled with -advmethods....but if i add these tags to a p4 machine...will they do anything??
(i looked int he forums and i havnt found a clear answer)

//edit

    Looking for a bit more, huh? Just wait until I get back from Vacation and fix my third rig... AMD 1800+ will hopefully get you at bay. :D

    As for your question.... I wouldn't mind knowing that answer myself....

    uhoh....sumones brrrreaking out the 1800+ (no sarcasm i swear) it looks like i might have to incorporate my moms laptop into this folding dealy (2.53ghz) so hah...and double hah!! lol
    also, ive got a dualy 450mhz machine coming in soooonnn

    With a P4 SSE is enabled by default -forceasm just tells it not to check its shutdown state.

    With gromacs and SSE, a P4 folds almost as well as an Athlon XP.

    :wow: almost...... :respect::respect::respect: AMD

    Yep, almost. I benched a P4 2Ghz with a XP running at 2GHZ, the XP was about 2 minutes a frame quicker.

    Actaully as I understood it gromacs were optimized to run on the intel chips. I don't know how well they run on AMDs but thats what I always thought. That would be why you added the -advmethods, to get more gromacs, and the -forceasm does provide some further optimizations.

    Hah WuG, you are going to need more than that to pull away from me.
    I wouldn't know about P4s (too poor) but my P3 (notebook) runs closer to the AMDs on Gromacs than it did on Tinkers. But still behind clock for clock.

    ed...i hate to break this to you...but here r me and reings folding comps that run 24/7

    2.4ghz p4
    2.533ghz p4
    1900+
    1900+
    1800+
    1.2ghz tbird
    900mhz (dual p2 450)
    (might happen) p4 3.06 (only with 533 fsb though)
    on during the day:
    p4 2.533
    p3 1ghz

    i think i got a pretty strong line up...so bring it ed...bring it

    If those are on all the time thats over 2k a week.

    P4s gain even more than AMDs with gromacs and SSE boost because P4s have SSE2 which is also used. P3s come pretty damn close to Athlons per clock cycles this way.

    why do i only see "sse" enabled then...how do i enable sse2?

    Opteron has SSE2, correct?

    If so, Athlon64 will probably have it also.

    /me wonders how an Athlon64 2GHz would perform w/ a 64-bit optimized folding client. Oh yeah! =)

    Yes the "Hammers" have SSE2.

    It will only show SSE boost. For P4s its either SSE or nothing. There is no 3dnow! boost. Intel doesnt have 3dnow!

    then whats this talk os sse2?

    If it says SSE boost on a P4 it includes SSE and SSE2. If its on an AMD it only includes SSE since current AMDs dont have SSE2. Only the new hammers will have SSE2 on them.

    The logs will show 3dnow!, SSE boost or standard optimizations.
