i got a lot of help on this forum so ive finally decided to begin folding but one question i have is, if i join a team, do i have to create multiple names if im running multiple computers? im planning on running 2-4 computers depending on if i can get two computers that are having spyware issues to run again.

    Awesome news xxKKangxx....

To get folding you download the installer and input your Folding name that you created and select team 93 so your name is tied in with Short-Media. If you want to join a Team within Short-Media there are a few floating around. liek SM_Team AMD & SM_Team_Intel. these teams are apart of Short-Media but are for Folders who want to join forces and give the top 10 folders of SM a run for there money. To fold for one of these teams you just use their name to fold under.

It will ask something like this when you set it up:

User Name: "you put your name you want to fold under" or " a team name like SM_Team_AMD"

Team Number: 93 "93 is the number that Short Media is registered under for Folding"

If you have any other question feel free to ask, as the knowledge here is vast! I hope I didn't confuse you with the info above.

No. The way to see your score really grow is to make sure and use the exact same username on all your machines. We have people (like Sledgehammer70) with many, many computers all piling up the points under one username. I've got about eight of them Folding in my own username.

Thanks for joining Team 93! :D

Is it bad if folding is using 97% of my CPU?

I am on line but not doing anything besides emails and researching for work.

No - that's exactly what you want. See post #7 in this thread. :D

How long does it take to do a full protein?
  • QCHQCH Ancient Guru Chicago Area - USA Icrontian
    edited April 2006
Depending on the PC (CPU speed and type, Speed and amount of memory) it can take anywhere from 1/2 a day to weeks....

Does it also depend on the lenght of the protein chain? Some proteins are very long.

Can depend on complexity of WU, but not only necessarily length of protein chain alone. The environmental factors programmed in can also be complex or less complex.

    One more question.

How do I check how long until I am done with the protien?

The easiest is to download and install EMIII. This application tracks the progress of your Folding client. It can estimate how long until you finish the protein, how many points it's worth, and most importantly, it alerts you when something is going wrong.

EMIII takes forever to set, even more when you have no idea what you are doing.

The first time I tried setting it up I gave up. Once I figured it out it actually was quite easy. If you need help, send me a PM and I'll walk you through it via AIM or something.
