im running a pentium 4, 3.0 ghz northwood processor

when i am funning FAH (2 instances) my cpu temp is around 63 and the case temp is about 42

now i have had my computer apart and removed the cpu fan/heatsink to clean it and i swear it runs hotter now than before

i am not 100% sure about this but im pretty sure it never ran this hot

is it possible that i need to re-apply thermal paste to create a better bond?

could i benefit from a better fan/heatsink?

i am currently running a zalman which i believe is the following

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=4C87&CategorySelectedId=11258&NavigationKey=11258,4294956808,50440

i would have thought it was sufficient
the system in question is the same system in my sig. if you guys need more system specs i can post them up

muchos gracias

any thoughts?

Definitely clean both heat spreader and HSF and apply fresh thermal paste.

I ran that Zalman on a P4 2.4B, but on the later Prescotts I ran the Zalman CNPS7000 Cu (full copper). An update to a better HSF would be a good idea as F@H running 24/7 does produce some heat with the processor at 100% usage.

Well for a bit of future proofing the Zalman CNPS9500 LED as it fits all sockets. If this HSF can keep my P4 840XE coolish at 3.8Gb, yours should be easy.

3.6 Ghz Presscott using a CNPS9500 running two instances of folding. CPU temp is around 57'C, case temp is 34'C.

Your case temperature sounds a little on the hot side.

What case cooling are you running as good air movement through the case helps the temps?

Have a look inside the case and see if you can mount some extra fans to the case, to get some air flowing through the case, that will aid in dropping temps.

    yeah

what i might do is open it up and post a pic see if you guys can give me some idea's cos the case is a beast

i have the older version of THIS

its solid steel and i dont own a saw or anything like that so drilling is pretty much out of the question

are any of those fans that fit in the pci slots any good?
