Which manufacturer is considered the best in general? I'm thinking of getting a 9800Pro - whose version should I go for?
Thnx.

Well let's see, if you can't afford the 9800 Pro, go for the 9700Pro, or the 9600Pro-9500Pro.
The prices start at $140.00 and go up to $300.00, so take your pick.
The 9800 Pro is by far the best card out there.
Under that the more bang for the buck would be the 9500-9600 Pro cards.

I've always bought "Made by ATI". Can't go wrong, everything esle (as you seem to be acutely aware of already) is guesswork ;).

The Radeon cards made by ASUS or Sapphire Tech are hard to beat in the performance arena.
They are not made by ATI, but very high quality as well as performance.

I'd have to aggree, I've only bought asus manufactured video cards and they're by far the most impressive. They're solidly built and the most bonus features and software bundles I've ever seen in video cards. But, if you want my honest opinion, I'd get the geforce fx5900 ultra. I don't care for ATI. Never have. Call me ignorant, but I'm a diehard NvIdia fan.
