OK...
Back when I was dumb I had a Dell and I had a problem with this dell so I called the tech support. After troubleshooting they gave me a dos command that set the computer back to a previous settings of and earlier date, just like the system restore tool included with winXP. Well here I am an IT tech and I have a problem on an old 98 machine and I think this will solve the problem. Only thing is that I can't remmeber that damn command. Anyone have an idea???

I'm pretty sure that is a utility specific to Dell computers, written by Dell. As far as I know there is no equivalent to system restore in win98. Only ME and XP have that stuff :/

    might you possibly mean:

when booting up hit F8 to go to command prompt
instead of going in to windows

    at the prompt type:

    scanreg /restore

this will give you a list of the last 5 registry saves from which you can choose to revert back to
