Upgrade time

Rig is feels rather sluggish so I think it's in need of some rejuvenation.

Current specs are:

AMD Athlon 3800 (non X2)
1GB OCZ PC2 5400 Gold XTC
MSI K9N-Neo
nVidia 7800GT
250GB WD HDD
500GB WD HDD (rma)
Some NEC DVD burner
OCZ 520W PSU

Should I minimally upgrade and get a 6000+ dual core, and 2 gigs of ram? Should I go all out and buy quad core? Not sure about a budget but I'm open to suggestions. Are there any price cuts or hardware to look out for?

You are definitely in a bad spot there. S939 is extremely outdated, but still not bad by any means. It's a terrible platform to upgrade. 2 things that you should upgrade, but next time, you may have to build a whole new rig. 2GB of ram and a 8800GTS is what that rig needs now. Leave the rest. You can get 2X1GB of ram for pretty good prices now, especially used and a new 8800GTS is around 250 bucks lately.
