Rayray, welcome to Team 93! Folding@Home is not always easy to set up and run, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask for help.

http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3 That is a good place to start, http://icrontic.com/articles/folding-with-gpu2 that is about the GPU2 client.

Folding at Home, F@h, is a distributive computing project run by Stanford to help understand why some proteins fold certain ways and others fold incorrectly. Proteins folding incorrectly can cause serious illnesses and diseases. Also, the program is researching causes for some cancers and other serious abnormalities that are occurring as people live longer. The program works by you downloading a small program and running it, it uses the spare idle clock cycles/time of your CPU or GPU to do the work that massive server farms used to do.

Thanks! I really like the idea of the project, and what with the fact that I never turn this hunk of metal off.. I should be contributing a fair deal.

I've actually been folding for a while, and thanks to my PS3 ardichoke says I've hit the top 300.

Meanwhile I have just cracked the top 400 of team 93, and I've been folding for at least twice as long as lunchb0x. Stupid PS3 cranks out a crapton of PPD.

The joke I often throw out there "Unless ET flies down with a cure to cancer, I'll stick to F@H."

    But to each his own.

This sounds like a great thing, guys. As soon as I upgrade my computer from windows 2003 to windows 7, which will be in about a month, I'll be sure to join up.

What do I do if I can't find my name listed in the sig generator?

It takes a few WU's to be turned in before your user name will show up.

You should explain to/show him that the folding executables will not slow down the computer and that every little bit helps (see the page on folding@home where they talk about the research papers that have been published as a result of this)

Quick question, I'm considering folding, but I'm on limited bandwidth, I figure the F@H probably doesn't use too much bandwidth, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. So what kind of bandwidth does it use?

Also, is there a command-line version? If so, I may as well slap this on my VPS box too, as long as it doesn't use too much memory, I don't have much of that to spare.
