Personal project : Finding or making fan interior dust filter

Im building a new i7 rig, and well... even then i was trying to get a mid-tower because i hate to move away full-tower when going occassionaly to lan party, i fell in love with a recent full tower from Cooler Master.

The Cooler Master HAF 932. (http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/11304-cooler-master-haf-932-case-review.html)

For the price they sell it its no-brainer i think.

I love the look, the cooling ability, the quality... almost everything except one tiny thing... NO DUST filter ! With so many air flow coming in, without any filter this is gonna be a dust highway directly into the computer.

So i am thinking, welll... it shouldnt be too hard to build own made air filter and find a way to fix the behind every pulling fan in the case.

Did anyone here has already tried or succeed to do some ? Im surely not the first one with that project in mind so maybe i'll get some precious input from folks around here ;)

As a start, i must find some way of buying "sheets" of dust filter that i could cut to the size i need and then i would only need to find a way to fix it behind every fan.

After some search, i found some existing filter that you can buy :
http://www.quietpcusa.com/Fansis-Washable-120mm-Fan-Dust-Filter-P298C22.aspx -> Seems nice, but i don't know if it will fix well to any fan model, i doubt so, and i don't see 'the clipping' mechanism they talk about.

Or else, For own-made project the best thing i've found is this :

PuraPC Filter Material : http://www.purapc.com/store/PuraPC_filters.html -> Seems like the best material i can get. I could use some 2 side glue band to hold it in place at the back of a fan.

I didnt find anything in canada but both can be shipped here >.<

FYI some other stuff i've found :

http://users.tpg.com.au/pschamb/filter.html -> Great article from someone who tried the same thing, but ont crappy computer it seems lol. It seems like a second option would be Air conditioning filter could do the job. Would be the easiest material to findi think. Velcro can be use to hold it so i would just have to put slime slide of velcro on 2 side of each fan and it should do it.

http://www.computerdust.com/products/cpu_covers.html -> Or I could buy that and cut piece of the material but i don't think it will accumulate dust very well, as it is designed to be OUTSIDE the compute, not inside.

I found some other dust material but i don't think it'll do a great job :
http://grace032.en.ec21.com/Dust_Collector_Filter_Cloth--3606573_3642652.html -> it seems like it would cut to many air input. I need a piece of interlaced honeycomb or something like that.

Any other idea/link/advice ?

Thankx

I just buy HEPA filter and affix it between the fan and to whatever the fan's mounting. It's not pro when you need to change them, but it's worked well for me.

HEPA filter are very THICK, like 3' or so , how can you manage to fit that into a PC ? Also, i think those filters are made for heavy air flow, so i would think that it will interfere a great bit with the normal air input of the fan, no ? =/

HEPA doesn't need to be thick. I'm not at home, so I can't verify, but I have some thinner stuff that's more flexible.

It may not be HEPA; I've misremembered before.

Maybe there's thinner stuff thant what i've seen so far.

If yes that could effectively make it.

@Thrax : Have you already try this trick ? I wonder if it will hurt air flow... Well, i don't think so cuz woman can wear those things all day long without any ventilation problem :P So my guess is that your idea is genious ! Just need to clear them frenquently but at least you don't have to clear all the computer.

Plus you can buy black ones that wont hurt the visual aspect of the inside of the case.

Any type of filter you use will effect the air flow. The better the filter, the less air that will pass through it. The nylon will work though I'm sure. Besides, with that big ol fan on the top of that case, I doubt you'll have any heat problems.
