Good music-editing software?

edited December 2009 in Internet & Media
For a skit, two friends of mine want to take bits of three songs and stitch them together into one song file. What kind of software would you recommend for this?

For a simple, cuts-only project like that, Audacity is free and easy to use.

It lets you edit strings of sound the way you would edit text. Highlight segments and cut-and-paste them around, then export as WAV, MP3, or OogVobis.

I've used Audacity with great effect on many projects; it's got pro-level features, and it's free:

I haven't drank Sailor since the night of the frozen Sailor n' Cider which was followed by that horrid French vodka.

Most of the time I just end up using whatever the audio tools in my video editing software do, I really need to learn Audacity.

I have a mac. I'll (mostly) remain silent. But we produce a podcast and when it's their turn to do some editing they use audacity. Also depending on what it is your putting together another indispensable program we use is called The Levelator (for both OS X and Windows).
