Upgraded to WIN 7 / AVI file issue

edited February 2010 in Science & Tech
Ok not sure if this is where I should put this.

So I upgraded from XP Pro to Win 7 Pro and in XP my AVI files played just fine without any skipping pausing or messing up and now with Win 7 all those problems are happening with the same files that work just fine on other XP and Win 7 computers.

Suggestions? Anything I can do?

Install FFDShow, and don't use Windows Media Player.

What Thrax said, also, I'd recommend using Media Player Classic as the alternative to WMP for playing video. VLC is also an excellent video player. Either one would serve you far better than Windows Media Player.

I generally play my movies in DivX

There's your problem, you installed DivX. That junk became a bloated piece of spyware infected crap years ago. Purge DivX from your system for your own good.

Install K Lite Codec Pack, it replaces all your video/audio codecs and it installs Media Player Classic. You can get it here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Well I uninstalled DivX and it seems to be working better now. DivX worked just fine without those problems in Win XP
