EpIC Golf 2011

Four years ago, seven brave souls ascended to the ultimate challenge, Golf.

1d.jpg

They battled the elements, the alcohol, the babe selling the alcohol, the water hazards, and a flock of canadian geese.

They succeeded where none had before. Creating an amazing event during the Icrontic Expo that didn't involve a computer, lazers, smart phones, dice, or some fancy hand held pokemon time killer.

And, they had fun doing it.

So, yeah, we gonna play some golf!

New for 2011, Golf will be on THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2011 FROM 8AM to 2PM. This gives us six hours all to ourselves to play with our balls and drink. Yea, you heard me, YOU CAN DRINK! 99% of the time there is an attractive female type person selling drinks on the course, so bring a little extra cash

Rules besides the normal Golf rules:
-you will need your own clubs or have borrowed someones
-we will play a scramble type game, each team playing best ball
-teams will be organized better this year
-cost is about $30 I believe for 18 holes

Men and Women are both encouraged to play. Cut-off is 12 persons right now. I'll update this more as we get closer, but please post here if you want to play!

They even let people with no skill play. Like me ;) So don't worry and just sign up to have a good time.

I'm in if I can get both Thursday and Friday off from the new job. No guarantees, though. I don't get vacation time... but can probably take it off with no pay.

I might recommend heading to the driving range at least once, maybe a weekend before the lan party. It makes it much easier when your drive on the first tee isn't the first swing in a year.

Do not listen to this man. It's waaaaay more entertaining when this is the only golf you play all year.

It may be waaay more entertaining, but you still need to be able to keep a certain pace of play on the course. We will not be the only ones there. Too much drunken shenanigans (or just shenanigans) isn't what we are after either.

    Also, In.

It will help keep the pace of play high if the seasoned golfers are seeded between all the teams this year ;)

I already have plans to resolve the issue we had last year with the slow pace, the course ranger, and such.

    More info coming soon!

I'd like to play, but cannot commit yet. Last year I disappointed a lot of people by coming back late from the golf, so I'll wait until I see how the rest of that day's schedule looks.

While I'm not planning to participate in golf, perhaps there's another alternative... Why not just play until whatever time you have to return to ICHQ and make the final scores whatever they were at the last hole everyone completed?

also, you should totally play Nick. Serious, I think you would enjoy it

Last time I played was in 1997. Played 9 holes, quit counting at 100 strokes.

If I can find myself a set of clubs or convince my wife that I NEED a new set of clubs I'll be in... Fair warning, I haven't played in a couple years and if I remember anything about the last time I played, this won't be pretty... But I'll put on a happy face (or the beer will help with that) and I'll come to have some fun...

Wait a sec... where is this again? I looked at the some of the photos and in recognizing two of the people I assumed it would be near me... city/state?

As I stated in the scheduling planning thread, aside from the golf which has been set for Thursday morning since last year, all other event times are tentative and not to be announced publicly until finalized. The talent show was just thrown into the schedule at 2PM Thursday on a whim because it was suggested, the staff has not yet finalized the times for all events. In the end, there might be no conflicting event after golf, but right now, it's just too early to announce any event besides golf.

By all means, I encourage you to golf! Six hours has pretty much been the norm in past years. If it takes longer, as Eric says we're going to have some problems at the course.

apologies Rob, I jumped the gun.

Just trying to avoid having what happened last year, happen again this year. Expo is only two months away, I assumed the schedule was|should be pretty much set in stone by now, but I'm the one looking like the ass this time.

Fixed up this discussion to reflect the schedule not being set yet.
