No video output

So I have everything to put together another computer but when I try to install Windows 7 on a recently formatted hard drive nothing will come up on the monitor. I'm using the video card from my main PC to do this which works so I don't think it's an issue with the video card. I've tried two different monitors and two different power supplies, both slots for the video card on the motherboard and both outputs on the video card. The computer starts up just fine, cd drive will open/close and sounds like it is reading the install disc, fans turn on, hard drive is on but nothing shows up on the monitor, not even a no signal message. I'm out of ideas. Halp.

Does monitor actually have power/status lights? For example, when nothing is plugged into mine but it has power, there is an amber light. When it has something connected, it is blue. It does sound like your computer is booting normally. Did you try plugging your monitor directly into the motherboard without a video card? (I won't be up to help further troubleshooting but can check-in in the morning)

I did find it a bit odd that when I unplug the monitor from the video card the light on the CRT turns green which is normal for when it is on and says no signal but when I plug the cable back in it turns yellow like it's in sleep or standby mode and the no signal message goes to a black screen. Similar results when using the LCD. I'll try plugging it into the motherboard tomorrow if I have time.

That sounds like how mine behaves when it thinks there is no signal from the current device. Either restart your computer (power/restart button) and let it turn back on as is to see if it picks up the card/monitor or it just isn't outputting to card (BIOS might have onboard only as default for some reason)

Sounds like your motherboard may have onboard video. In some cases you'll need to plug your monitor into that first, the boot up, then go into BIOS and either activate/deactivate the onboard in order for your add on Video card to be the primary video source.

This is the board I'm using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130063 which apparently does have onboard video (I somehow missed that fact for the 3 years I used it). I do however see no way to plug a monitor into the motherboard directly at least not with any cables I have. Then again I don't know what these two ports are for either.

I'm assuming the top one is a video output but don't know what kind of cable it needs.

neither is a video port. top is parallel port, bottom is serial port.

no onboard video on that motherboard.

can you list all the specs of the system?
    I might guess bad CPU.
Are you getting any beep codes when it posts (do you have the little speaker connected?)?

Well shit, now I wonder what this nvidia nForce 500 sticking out of it is though. Could there be jumper pins on the hard drives, cd drive, or mother board causing this?

No onboard means you should be seeing something if everything is kosher with the video card. Double check to make sure it is securely plugged in, power is all plugged in correctly, monitor cables etc. the only jumper pins that could cause anything like this would be BIOS reset, to my knowledge, and you wouldn't hear other things like CD spinning up if that were the case (I think!)

    Triple checked or more.

nForce 500 is just the northbridge/chipset. No video involved.

It is possible that one of those things could cause the problem. I'd suggest taking it all out of the case, and seeing if having just the cpu/ram/video will let your PC boot to the bios screen

Stripped it down to cpu, 2 gigs of ram, and video card. Reset the motherboard/bios battery. Still no change. Maybe the motherboard went and died? It's been in a box for about a year now.

Any status lights/beep coming from motherboard?

do you have the speaker plugged into the header?

if you pull the ram, do you get beeps?

I'm not sure what the header is but there are no speakers plugged in. Pulled out all the ram and no beeps.

This board has a "Hareware" Monitor do you have the Hares installed? :)

All kidding aside you have Both power cables plugged in yes... Not trying to be rude but without the 4 pin cable for CPU power, boards will show the same symptoms.

Yep, I'm of the the belief that the motherboard is busted at this point.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me with my factory dead Asus motherboard. It was stuck in an endless POST loop....

I just tested it with another processor and had the same results as before. New motherboard ordered. If that doesn't fix it I'm throwing the whole thing off a cliff. Thanks for all the input and advice guys!
