The ICHQ Warren Memorial

Last post from ICHQ Warren.

It's been a great run. I bought this place in 2004, and Icrontic, my kids, and I all sort of grew up here. We've had countless events, from huge bashes to individual Icrontians stopping by on their way to or from somewhere. The first time I met most of you was here.

From the Yellow Room to the Icrontic banner in the office, from the kids' room to the garage, every inch of this house holds Icrontic memories.

We'll continue to make awesome memories at ICHQ Detroit, no doubt, but I'll never forget how important this house was to our community.

First time I went there was during this year's expo. From the awesome cross-stitching on the walls to the super relaxed, at-home atmosphere, it was a thing of beauty. Not a lot of memories, but I won't forget it.

I have lots of memories from ICHQ, sometimes I can even remember them!

So many good memories. All the defiled toilets, table talks in the kitchen, Rock Band with Shorty, The Kiss, and Snuffie.

Gonna miss meeting everyone at the old ICHQ.

Lot of good memories in that house. Thank you, Brian and Matt, for being responsible for all of them. <3
  • Also being someone who only saw ICHQ Warren a couple times, and never really stayed there for more than a couple hours ... I can say for the brief time I was there I could almost detect or feel that there were many a good memory in that home. It was evident all around me.

After the 2012 expo the stragglers who refused to leave ended up in ICHQ Warren the last day. Thrax was leaving, and the rest of us lined up outside and we played the Final Countdown by Europe as Thrax walked out the doorway.

At least that's how I remember it. This is the only picture I ever took that has ICHQ in it:

I wish I could've been Final Countdowned, but alas that was @Myrmidon who received that prestigious honor.

Perfect, I'm happy to have gotten even some part of the memory right. @Myrmidon and @Teramona jumped a ride with @BobbyDigi and I to DTW after that. We rushed to a book store before our flights, and then made our way back to ole California.

Before we left, @primesuspect showed @BobbyDigi and I the secret QR code. It was great.

I'm lucky enough to have been able to visit twice... two times in one year after having spent a lifetime never leaving my own state. So, my first experience outside of California was made so incredibly memorable by getting the chance to spend a week here for New Years. I feel like that definitely deserves a very heartfelt thank you to all of you for that.

I've experienced everything from heartbreak to bliss at ICHQ and learned a lot during my times there. Looking forward to the next chapter.

EPIC 2012 and by extension ICHQ was my first foray out of my own country, the purpose of which being defined by me, myself, and I not my family.

In many ways it was my first real decision as an adult and the experiences I had, and the people I met will carry on with me for the rest of my life.

    I can't wait till EPIC 2013.

So, do we have to break a bottle of champagne on the new house now?

I shall also miss this place ridiculously. I can only hope we bring the same amount of camaraderie and love to the new ICHQ as this house has been blessed to see.

I will also miss the house immensely. I know that I did a lot of growing up standing around the island at the old house; I think a lot of us did.

    I love you guys.

That house means a lot to me. I met Brian and Mat for the first time in the kitchen around the island - it changed my life. I had my first ever beer there (Bell's Oberon), I became an Icrontic writer there. I discovered BOMPZ on the couch with Brian. I hit my head on everything. I pulled the 3-peat of duct tape challenge wins there. I made more lifelong friends than I can possibly count within those walls.

So much laughter, sorrow, tears, calmness, bad decisions, happiness ...perfection. I'll miss that house so much, but I'm ready for the next chapter. There's a bright future ahead.

Also, where was the QR code? Also also, let's do another Scavenger Hunt at next year's Expo.

Homemade strawberry pie, endless pasta salad, beer, board games, dancing, Rock Band, golf, bodices, the Spanish Inquisition, making some amazing friends, and lots of great conversations. I have @MAGIC to thank for introducing me to all of you, and it's a incredible to have this strong of a bond with people across the country and world. Love you all.

Well, I wouldn't have expected that.

Coming full circle at the end of this month. My first event at ICHQ Warren was ICOK'11, and my first event at ICHQ Detroit (outside of The Move) will be ICOK'12.

Wouldn't have it any other way.
