100 Days of Running

Hey there, friends! I've seen a few fitness threads pop up over the course of the past two years since I joined Icrontic, so I think some of you will be interested in doing this with me. Since my dad and I have decided to finally go for the string of California marathons we've been eyeing for a couple years (and since my Doctor said it's okay!), I've been running seriously again for about two weeks now, and I'm trying to make it a point to do it, even if only for a quick warm up jog, every single day. Even after 11 days, I feel better and more energetic than I have in months... But, as with anything, it's always nice to have company. Which is where you come in. Maybe.

I propose 100 days of running.

I want to make a point of saying that this isn't about losing weight. It's about being healthy and active. I'm calling this "100 days of running", but it can be anything. Just make it a point to get up and do something for 30 minutes a day for the next 100 days. I know that 30 minutes is asking a lot when you have lives and families that need tending to, but it's easy to fit it in. Today, I took 10 minutes out of my lunch break to take a quick jog down the street and back. That's a mile of extra healthiness under your belt for just ten minutes of your down time. It'll be easy to fit in 20 more minutes from here.

This also isn't about being discouraged. If 100 days sounds daunting, don't let it. Take the stairs instead of the elevator one day. Get off your bus 2 stops too soon. DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING. Everything counts, because it isn't a competition. It's more like a call to arms, except instead of arms, it's arms and legs and heart and... everything else.

And as if being healthier wasn't enough, I'm also going to send everyone who chooses to participate a special pin. Yup, that's right! You get swag.

So, I hope some people join me in this. I've been using the hashtag #100daysofrunning on Twitter when I say anything about this. You should, too.

    I love it. Have you got running shoes? I need to get some myself.

    I'm back in karate this week (seven weeks ahead of schedule!). Does that count?

    @Bright, I have running shoes, yeah! I've been running for a few years. I wear asics, and they're awesome.

    @mertesn Yup!

    Ooh, swag. That's much better motivation than health or weight-loss. I'm totally in. I'll kick it off with having gone bowling on Saturday :D

    Day 15 for me, and I've dropped two notches in my belt. Yogurt has been so kind to me.
