what if to solve this issue of twenties of songs with one vote, we all get to also vote for our top ten picks off other peoples lists?

    YES!

Cherplunka, I figured it out. I don't remember the film (working at a theater for four years, you see lotsa movies), but I know there's a scene where Will Ferrel is singing dust in the wind at a funeral. it's a painfully off-key arrangement, but it's not a maraichi band.

It's close, but not quite the droid you were looking for.

You don't see too much of the Deal sisters anymore, and I consider that a shame.

Also, Monkey Gone to Heaven was one of first songs by the Pixies (it was one of the first ones I heard from them) that really made me sit up and say "Whoah, now these guys are something special."

    Ha! Oh man, bummer.

Kim Deal singing "Gigantic" is about as good as it gets.
  • Sup Icrontic Ima hit you up with some hot shit.

    17. Justice- D.A.N.C.E.
    18. Golgol Bordello- Wonderlust King
    19. The Faces- Ooh La La (absolute classic)
    20. Placebo- Pure Morning

Lots of honorable mentions like The Postal Service, Death Cab, The Crystal Method, The Human League, The Clash, New Order, Goose, Rage Against the Machine, The Talking Heads, and some were omited because of duplicates, like Blur, Radiohead, Cake (Think its funny how loving Cake is universal). Plus I almost entirely disregarded genres like Punk or Classic Rock. Screw it I can't work on this any longer. Suffice to say this would be the playlist as I see it today.

My former-self, and my future-self would be disappointed in me though.

\edit I should have never finalized this all I do is remember things I forgot about like The Shins- Sleeping Lessons. fml I'm such a music Nazi.

    1. Wolf Parade - I'll Believe in Anything
    2. Wilco - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart

I just registered here to second that these top two songs are 1) amazing and 2) probably underexposed - I know at least the Wolf Parade one is. When I stumbled upon that song in 2005 I made everyone and their dog listen to it. Most people don't immediately love it, but dang if it doesn't grow on you. That Wilco song is a "grower" even more so.

Now I gotta go put together my own 20...
  • Ok did this in under 15 minutes by going into iTunes, sorting by rating, and selecting 20 from the 5 star jobbers. Hardly scientific... I'll email here in a bit as well! Thanks for putting this together.

    Animal Collective - My Girls
    Arcade Fire - Wake Up
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
David Bowie - Life on Mars?
    Elliott Smith - Say Yes
Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?
    The Jayhawks - Blue
    Joy Division - Shadowplay
    Massive Attack - Angel
    Mew - The Zookeeper's Boy
    Muse - Take A Bow
    Nirvana - Drain You
    Pinback - Grey Machine
    Pixies - Debaser
The Smiths - How Soon is Now?
The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored
Tom Waits - San Diego Serenade
    Underwold - Two Months Off
    Wilco - Poor Places
Wolf Parade - I'll Believe In Anything

My third-cousin is the drummer of Rage and Audioslave. No big deal.

I'll get my list posted later.

Yeah yeah Weezer, we know already.

I'm related to Ben Franklins wife, you don't hear me bragging about it! ....

Also, lists need to be posted tonight man. Read the rules, and post!

Flownover, welcome to Icrontic! Any man who registers because of Wolf Parade is a friend of mine! Pull up a barstool, we're a friendly bunch.

A great list you've posted as well. Animal collective, Flaming lips, Joy Division, massive attack, and Tom Waits! Great stuff, especially Tom Waits. I didn't expect to see anything from him on these lists.
