Godsmack is one of those bands that is fun to listen to, but not in a best band ever. Of course then there's the other reason Godsmack is to Metal as Nickleback is to Rock.

yes it all about old modest mouse. although no modest mouse made this list. heck, half of my top ten bands didn't.

top twenty songs that have effected my life, and are also in the running for least likely to make the cut....

Sonny's Squall- Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee
    Lincolnshire Posey - Percy Granger
Cristo Redentor -the Charlie Musslewhite version
    Take a Letter Maria - R.B. Greaves
Johnny Was - Stiff Little Fingers's version
And Justice for All - Metallica
    Street Hassle - Lou Reed
A Fairytale of New York - The Pogues
Dust in the Wind - as played by a mariachi band at my wedding or funeral
Amazing Grace - Aretha Franklin, but really as sung by anybody
    Wham City - Dan Deacon
The Ballad of Johnny Burma - Mission of Burma
    Monk Time - The Monks
The End Of the World... - R.E.M.
Fish Heads - Barnes and Barnes
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
    Nantes - Beirut
Gut feeling/ slap yr mammy - Devo
Straight to Hell - The Clash
Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts- Wolf Parade

"Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts" is my second favorite song on the album, just behind "I'll Believe in Anything." Between the three of us (You, Bobby, and myself) we're making quite the solid Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Handsome Furs voting block, which is friggin' awesome because Spencer Krug and Co. deserve it. Anyway good job with The Pogues, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Clash.

Jesse, you listen to Stiff Little Fingers?
Also, I'm sure he would like me to point out to everyone that his PC's desktop wallpaper is of The Clash. You can thank me later.

Wasn't that in a film? I seem to remember Dust in the Wind being played by a mariachi band in some movie over the last few years...

My folks are huge blues fans, and Mayall is one of the artists they've turned me on to. They saw him at Fargo a couple of years ago and actually got him to autograph a CD Liner notes for me.

upslynx, nope, no movie, just a life long dream. as far as i know i've never heard of a mariachi band playing dust in the wind. but someday i'll make it happen.

    lunchb0x,
my dad raised me on piedmont blues. he also carries harmonicas with him nearly everywhere he goes, just in case.

    grimnoc,
i have a hard time listening to "dear sons..." without "i'll believe in anything," so i'm glad to see it there.

Cliff - High Five for Red Barchetta, Monkey gone to heaven (one of my favorite pixies) and Talking heads.
Mr. Bungle - Squeeze Me Macaroni

    YES!

Cherplunka, I figured it out. I don't remember the film (working at a theater for four years, you see lotsa movies), but I know there's a scene where Will Ferrel is singing dust in the wind at a funeral. it's a painfully off-key arrangement, but it's not a maraichi band.

It's close, but not quite the droid you were looking for.

You don't see too much of the Deal sisters anymore, and I consider that a shame.

Also, Monkey Gone to Heaven was one of first songs by the Pixies (it was one of the first ones I heard from them) that really made me sit up and say "Whoah, now these guys are something special."

    14. The Dubliners- On Raglan Road
    15. The Decemberists- 16 Military Wives
    16. Flock of Seagulls- I Ran (So Far Away) {you know you love this song}
    17. Justice- D.A.N.C.E.
    18. Golgol Bordello- Wonderlust King
    19. The Faces- Ooh La La (absolute classic)
    20. Placebo- Pure Morning

Lots of honorable mentions like The Postal Service, Death Cab, The Crystal Method, The Human League, The Clash, New Order, Goose, Rage Against the Machine, The Talking Heads, and some were omited because of duplicates, like Blur, Radiohead, Cake (Think its funny how loving Cake is universal). Plus I almost entirely disregarded genres like Punk or Classic Rock. Screw it I can't work on this any longer. Suffice to say this would be the playlist as I see it today.

My former-self, and my future-self would be disappointed in me though.

\edit I should have never finalized this all I do is remember things I forgot about like The Shins- Sleeping Lessons. fml I'm such a music Nazi.
