Ahh, usernames are so much fun.

My personal favorite from my HelpDesk days needs a little background:

When I first started, it was early enough in the technological timestream that we were still able to choose our own usernames. Myself being 'Nathan Andrews', I naturally picked 'nandrews'. Easy peasy, no?

A short few months after my arrival, usernames started to become short in supply, and with an 8-character maximum, it became difficult enough that the powers-that-be decided to use automated username creation. This system would take various aspects from the person's full name and combine them to create a workable 8-character or less username.
