Water stuck in ear!

I hate this feeling like I'm deaf on one side and amazing hearing on the other. Somehow water got into my ear last night and I can't get it out. I tried to shake the hell out of my head, Q-tips, debrox, and sleeping with that ear down, but nothing worked so far. Anyone been through this, or now how to solve it?

And before anyone mentions it, I also tried to blast music into my ear but that didn't work either, unless someone has an mp3 of some really high frequency that we cant hear but that will break up earwax or something.

It proly is a build-up of wax. Have someone carefully pour some hydrogen-peroxide into your ear, and let it sit in there for a minute or so. It's like listerene for your ear (no need to swish or gargle, however)

Yea a guy who works here told me that too. Let me get a few more replies and I'll go in order of easiest and/or least damaging solution to the most. I like this idea, and I don't think it would damage anything but I have to wait till I can get outta here and go buy some peroxide.

You should keep some of that around the house anyway, for first aid. It's usually less than a dolar/bottle.

If it's earwax, peroxide is probably your fastest/easist bet. It beats the heck out of sticking a wick down your ear canal and lighting it up!

If it's water, dripping 99% isopropyl alcohol down your ear canal should help dry up the swimmer's ear.

Go to an otologist, maybe theres something blocking your eustachian tube from draining. Have you ever had tubes? Or any ear problems before?

Well, I don't know what your referring to when you say tubes, but I'm sure I don't have them if it rewuires surgery or anything. I did have some ear problems before. About 4 years ago, I had a throat abcess and every time I tried to swallow food or something, I could feel pain in my ear. After abotu 5 days, I could barely open my mouth, and I had to get a surgery. The surgery was only about 15 minutes long, but before the operation, they checked my ear, and they used this little vaccuum thing to suck up all the wax. Apparantly there was no problem in my ear, just too much wax. That was towards the end of 5th grade I think. I think I need to get the wax sucked out again.

If neither peroxide nor medicinal alchohol did the trick, then it proly is time to schedule and apointment with your GP, at least so that a pro can look in the side of your head...

Well the guy that works here told me it usually takes 3 to 4 times of peroxide (spaced a few hours apart) to do the trick. Should I try this or no? I did have this same problem after I went in the pool a few weeks back, and I tried alcohol then, and it didn't work, but about 3 days later, it automatically felt better.

If this is happening more than once in that close of a time period i'd definitely talk to an otologist or GP about it.

Try the peroxide again but I don't believe wax is the problem.

Look, you've obviously got a problem with your ears. Go to a doctor and see someone about it. The trapped water will develop into an outer ear infection, and the cycle will repeat itself over and over.

Close your mouth and hold your nose, then get somebody to blow in the other ear.
But seriously, warm olive oil is great for loosening ear wax. A few drops and lie on the good ear for a few minutes. Do it a couple of times a day, after a few days it will wash out.

I went to the doctor a few days back to get a physical so I could get a work permit, and he said my ears were fine, I just had a buildup of wax, and he told me to get Debrox. I tried that, and the first night, I could hear the wax breaking up, but after that, nothing happened. I felt the wax breaking up again today when I put in peroxide.

You can buy a bulb to project warm water SLOWLY into the ear (think mini turkey baster)- over several applications it should dislodge any offending klingons.

UNLESS!! I complained to the doctor about the same prob- he said it is a build-up inside the ear drum, probably due to allergies, but it feels like it is in the outer ear canal. Only antihistamines help, and I can't take them without bouncing off the walls. Thus no real cure. The sensation is very irritating tho. The doctor said that they have no chemical that unclogs that area directly, antihistamines help by luck...

This is SUPER weird that I see this thread tonight. Tonight I was at a training class for work and our teacher/manager person was talking about how something crawled into her ear - she was sure of it Turns out the doctor said it was just an ear infection, gave her a bunch of drugs, but none of them are helping. One guy said warm olive oil, another said rubbing alcohol. This is a deja vu for me

I've tried the following things so far:
-Hydrogen Peroxide
-Olive Oil
-Warm Water
-Sleeping on the ear
-Sleeping on opposite ear
-Q-Tips

The only thing left for me to do is go see a doctor. Told my mom to get an appointment. Wish me luck so I don't have to go through too much. I hope all it takes is one of those vacuuming sessions.

Pour molten lead in it.

Seriously, good luck with the doc. I'm about 50% deaf and can tell you that you don't mess around with things like that.

Let's hope not. I got an appointment for August 2. I told them it would probably fix itself by then. Pfft.

I had water stuck in my ear one time for almost 2 weeks. I slept on it every night and one day I woke up and it was gone. I know how you feel man, it was so annoying.

Ever tried Ear Candles?

Stick em in your ear, burn em, marvel at the big peanut butter looking ball of nasty earwax that comes out.

Indeed it is, I didn't notice. I personally have never had it done, but watched someone else have it done at a party. He was quite pleased with the results. He said he could hear 100 times better. We ended up getting a golf ball sized ball of wax out of his ear, it was hilarious. All brown and nasty looking.

If ya try it, follow the instructions, and farmiliarize yourself with the dangers.

Im a bit late, and this may have been said, but walmart, and drugstores have a solution that is called/for SWIM-EAR, that is the name brand, which there are others, what you have I think is swimmers ear. where water gets stuck and wont come out.

The stuff I think is mainly rubbing alcohol, and you lay on your side, put the drops in, wait a couple minutes, it might burn a little, and then turn over and hold a klenex up to your ear, as a lot of liquid will probably come out. I have to do sometimes after I get done swimming,

Yea It's 95% Iso Alc. Thats what I used last time I got it, and it didn't help at all. Actually it says to apply once daily for a few days, and after the third day or so, my ear was all red from the alcohol. I stopped using it and 2 days later i was fine. The hydrogen Peroxide feels amazing like its cleaning everything up, but nothing comes out.

SCAR, I'd bet that what Nightwolf said about something possibly blocking your eustachian tube is what is happening. If the inner ear is irritated it will likely only swell shut even tighter than it is now. I'd nag that doctor and see if they can get you in a little sooner than August 2nd.

I remember using that SwimEar stuff years ago when my sister and I went to this local college pool and swam a lot during the summers, and we'd always get those drops.

Well since it wen straight down the vacuum tube, I'm not sure, but why?

Yea, but don't go and try to get a dyson and stick the tube thing to your ear. Although that would probably work also....

Glad that you are feeling better.
