Paintball?

Okay, how many of you guys play paintball? Okay, airsoft too...

I'm an avid player, and I'm the president of the paintball club at my highschool. I currently (because money is a bit of a problem, I couldn't exactly get a B2K3 or any other electro in that range) have a 2K3 BKO with 68/3000 nitro, a 14" Teardrop, and some sticky's.

I have a Tipmann Pro Carbine... but I don't play. Got it from a trade, but I have played before....... long ago, in a galaxy far far away.

Yeah, shot an ******* a few times too many according to the ref. He was all like "Get outta here.." and I said "no. you get outta here". Then he tried playing off the whole "I WORK HERE" like that matters, and I was like "yeah. But I pay my taxes bitch." He called me an idiot and I was like "I know I am but what are you" and walked away a hero.

*The preceeding events may have actually never occured, but were said in a state if fever and cold medicine... in fact, they did occur, or did they............. no they did not. *cough* Ok maybe I feel strange becuase I just watched a couple episodes of RvB.

OK wait... no I don't play, but I think it's a great sport. Yeah, that sounded nice.

Yeah I play paintball. It's been prolly a year or so since I've actually played due to time and such but tis a great sport none the less. I currently have 3 working guns. My primary gun is a Spyder Shutter with all stock parts. I'm more into playing and having fun than spending gobs of money on expensive upgrades hence the reason everything is stock. My secondary gun is a stock Spyder Compact 2 in 1 Java Edition. It has a stubby barrel and is very basic but I love that gun. So easy to move around and fit into tight spaces with. I want to replace the bolt on it but I havn't got around to it yet. I was thinking about one of those self-lubing bolts I've heard about if I can find one. My other gun is a PT Extreme pistol. It has a 10 round clip and uses the tiny CO2 cartridges. Not an overly practical gun but it is fun to mess around with.

As for parts, aside from my guns, I use a $5.00 viewloader 200 round hopper. I know you can spend $50 on an electronic hopper but I have no problem with a basic hopper. If I need more balls fed down all I have to do it jiggle my gun and I'm set. Besides, the balls usually work their way down when I am running anyhoo. I also have a 4 + 1 ammo belt that holds 4, 150 round tubes and a CO2 canister. With the belt and hopper full I can carry 800 balls on me. I usually run my 20oz CO2 tank with a remote line when I am using that set up. Any other time I hook my 12oz CO2 to the back of one of my guns and go at it. I also have a Vigilante Regulator but it is on a broken gun right now. I've been thinking about putting it on my Spyder Compact but havn't decided for sure what to do with it yet.

I play, but due to my racing, I never get out at all. I was going to pick up an Angel at one point in time, but I don't play enough anymore to warrant it.

Currently, I have a VM-68 (Major old school gun/boat anchor for those that don't know) w/ expansion chamber, 20oz remote, and either a 12" teardrop or a 14" Dye on it (The teardrop is slightly more accurate it seems, but it all depends on the ball). Basic hopper (The action of the VM does a nice shaking job all by itself) and my belt for the 20 oz is a 6+1, but I usually only carry 2 tubes.

Heh heh heh. What a beast! I remember PT Extremes. I've never used one but I remember playing with someone who did. Not a bad gun if I remember. It was a popular pistol in its day. I was going to get one but they changed the model to the PT Extreme so I got it instead.

Anyone ever play with a Talon? You know, those all plastic Brass Eagle guns you get for like $15 at Wal-Mart. They arn't the best gun but they are a blast to mess around with. Whenever I play at my friends place someone usually winds up using one. If there is an odd number of players one team is just given the Talon guy as the extra person. I do think it would be fun to have Talon duels though. You know, back to back, 40 round hopper, 30 paces, turn, and FIRE! It would be a blast! Since Talons are so inexpensive and not overly powerful you could even do it in your backyard. Mwahahahaha! Oh the pwnage would be immense. Of course I'd be willing to try the same thing with semi autos as well, so you know.

I'm surprised you can make that PT live long enough to play!!! I had more trouble with that gun than any other (Used to run the paintball dept. at an Army Surplus store).

Best cheap gun is my most excellent Stingray, always fun to own the expensive guns with it I had two, but somehow McBain lost the barrel to one of them!! Once you do the trigger mod, its pretty darn good.

If I ever get back into it though, next on the purchase list is a Phantom pump (I play a sneakier game, so that gun would fit me well) and a PGP. I wouldn't mind a newer electronic gun, but I can already beat most guys who have them

The PT has actually proven to be pretty hearty, I guess I got one from a good batch. I haven't treated it as well as I should, and it still performs well for me.

I got inspired by the thread, I got out the gun, having not shot (or cleaned) it in about six months, I shot it into the snow off my deck, and hit the pile I was aimed at.

Yeah I've played with Stingrays too. They give a pretty good bang for their buck. Beating someone with a better gun is always a blast too. I took my Compact 2000 to an open game where about 10 guys with Angel's and Autocockers showed up. It sounded more like machine gun fire than a paintball game. When I finally hit a guy you really shoulda heard him cuss! Man it was great! He couldn't belive he got taken out by one of the semi autos.

It is a sad fact that a lot of people think that way. Just because someone spends $1200 on an Angel and I spend $90 on a Spyder doesn't mean I am a bad player. If a person was good enough I am sure they could take an Angel on with just a pump. In the end I'd be more proud of taking down an Angel with a pump than using the Angel and just spreading paint around.

Personally I don't think I'd like an electronic gun. I like the challenge of having to conserve ammo and take your shots when you get em instead of carrying an entire backpack full of ammo and going through 1000 rounds in a single game. That is not to say that people who use electronic guns are not skillful, because they can be, it just isn't my style.

I also enjoy keeping it fairly simple. The main reason I got my Compact 2000 is because it is a really simple gun. You don't have to worry about breaking anything on it or much maintenance. Just plug in some CO2, load some balls, and play. I'm also a big Spyder fan since they are so easy to take apart and clean. Just pull a pin and the whole back end falls out for easy cleaning and oiling. Spyders are all around good guns if ya ask me.

You can still spam with non-electrics, just not as fast. :P

Thats how my friend plays, he carrys 4 tubes strapped to his waist, and spams the crap out of people. Even with his Spyder TL(when I use his electric Automag) he spams. I hate that style of play, but for alot of people it is effective. I personally like the feel of electrics, the way the trigger feels when you press it, lets me concentrate more on aiming the gun.

Tomorrow I am going with him to look at guns, really leaning towards this one: http://www.kingman.com/section/emark...lectra_dx.html

Yeah spamming to some extent works ok I think but some people can go a bit overboard. I don't see any problem in shooting a volley of balls or so at an area when you see someone pop up. I tend to wait when they duck back down but being trigger happy can have its advantages at times.

I've never really played with an electronic gun so the only spamming I've done is with a semi auto. I guess with an easier trigger pull on an electronic it would free you up to concentrate more on your aiming. That is a definite plus.

That is definitly a sweet looking gun. I give it a 10/10 on the style points scale. From what I've read it sounds like it has some really nice features too. They've included several good firing modes for different situations. There is the semi auto for stalking/sniping, the 3 and 6 round burst for general bunker to bunker combat, and then the full auto for an all out assault spam fest. If you ask me you are making a good choice. It sounds like a really versitile gun.

Where I play, people look down upon the burst/auto modes =(. I think I would play around with the bursts/auto for a bit, but eventually just go back to single shot.

My friend has connections with a local shop, so I can get pretty much any Spyder for wholesale cost. Hes also giving me a 114/3000(its HUGE, but its free, can't complani) wrapped air tank and a Mask. So all I really need to buy is a gun and a hopper.

114/3000? Damn, those things are huge. It'll last you a while inbetween fills, but make sure you get a helluva drop for it.

My sex machine: [my 68/3000 nitro tank and ricochet2k are out of the picture]. It isn't my barrel by the way, I'm probably gonna be getting a CP Barrel kit soon...

Most of the people I usually play with use semi autos so we don't have to worry about automatics much. Even if you didn't get to use the other firing modes in game it might be fun to mess with em for target shooting. Of course from the style of play you seem to enjoy I'd suggest going with the Shutter if you are not going to be using the extra firing modes. I have a Spyder Shutter as my primary gun and I love it. It is pretty accurate with all stock parts and gets some nice style points if I do say so myself. It strips super easy with just a phillips head screwdriver and the pull of a pin (for a full break down. the bolt can be taken out with no tools required). I've had it for about two years now and havn't regretted it for a minute. A very good choice if you don't go with the Electra.

Oh and that is a sweet looking gun Cobalt. Very pretty.

On another note does anyone happed to know of a good side cocking colt that would fit a spyder? The bolt I have in my Spyder Compact is pretty scratched up and I am looking for a replacement.

I wouldn't call it a crutch, just a different style. You can't be a huge team player with a pistol, and thats about the only problem. I run semi over a pump just because when I play in groups, I want to be able to throw enough paint to keep some heads down, although a well placed shot will do that too

Now I reserve crutch for guys that throw a case of paint in a round

You could be a good team member with a pistol if the whole team had pistols, and worked together well.

You can't work as a team with autos, you're just a bunch of guys trying to shoot another bunch of guys... not a team.

Here is a pic of the beast Prolly ranks at the top of the list as one of the best guns ever made, except for the fact it weighs a ton. If I ever get playing again, its probably going to be once more with the VM, and then I'm going to retire her.

Don't believe a word this man says. CB never played in the sames games as Joe since Joe bought the Model 98. Joe's best shot with that gun was shooting a teammate in the leg point-blank because he was fiddling with the trigger.

Teammate: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH!
Joe: But the safety was on!

I play also. I don't have a good gun. The gun I've been using for the past two years is called "Point Zero" - but I'm still ranked pretty highly among the group of friends that plays, despite the fact that the gun is wildly inaccurate. I'm trying to find a Trracer pump gun (but they seem to be off the market), since we've got a standing rule that you're out if you fire more than a 2 round burst per shot at somebody. So we don't call "crutch" on the guys that throw a bucket of paint, we call "you're out."

I doubt you'll find a tracer pump, I *believe* they are out of production, but you could check you nearest store to see if they can special order you one. If you can't get a tracer, try and get a Phantom. Probably one of the best paintguns ever made, and its a pump!! Costs a bit more than a tracer though.

After doing some digging, and remembering some things, it looks like its going to be hard to find a Tracer (Can't even find em on ebay!!) so your best bet if you REALLY want one is to call up some local fields and see if they want to sell you one. They used to be very popular rental guns, and I'm sure some fields are itching to get rid of them, as long as you don't mind doing some work on it.

On a related note, if anyone out there ever comes across some VM-68 parts, or a gun for cheap, let me know. My gun needs a rebuild desperately.

I wouldn't mind having a decent pump myself. Would be interesting to mess around with if you could find an accurate one. Since the Tracers are unavailable is there another company out there that makes decent pumps right now? I havn't really looked into em all that much but I hardly ever see em posted on websites.

I think a pistol can be very useful on a team. I carry mine in a holster on my belt and it has saved myself and teamates on several occasions. I've had my gun jam up before and was able to stay in the game because I still had my pistol to keep me going. Teamates have also come to me after running out of CO2 to use the pistol to make it through the game until they could refill. You just gotta use your head some so that ya can get in close enough to toast em good. Oh and I swear the PT Extreme is more accurate if you hold it sideways. That and it just plain looks cool. I'd take a pistol in over a full auto for the sake of challenge. The more I think about it the less I think I'd enjoy an auto. That just isn't paintball to me.

Alot of electric guns have full auto capabilities AFAIK. I think they mean't just spamming, not really shooting full auto. Although some people can shoot as fast/faster than some full autos heh.

I'm 100% sure that there are Angels with full automatic available. Angels are the top of the line when it comes to electronic paintball guns. They come programmed with several firing modes and I am pretty sure you can even program your own with certain models. Aside from Angels some of the electronic Spyders have full auto available too. Check out the gun croc was looking at. I am pretty sure the Electra has full auto capabilities.

What Norge said about Angels, you can get them full auto if I remember correctly.

As for a good pump, as far as I'm concerned the only one to go with is the Phantom. Seriously accurate, extrememly well built, simple, and VERY light. Can cost up to $300 though (Range from 130-300 I think)!! If I had to pick up a pump as we speak, it would be a Phantom. There is also a Autococker out there that is a pump, that you can convert into a semi without much trouble, but I know nothing about it.

Whenever I play I try to go to Hellsurvivors here in Michigan (Its where they hold the big game every year with around 1200 players, extrememly fun). They generally split the fields up into two groups autos, and semis. The semis can move up to play with the autos, but the autos can't move down to play with the semis, also does an excellent job of seperating the n00bs from the vets. I generally play with the autos, unless I'm there with some of my buddies.

Well, it seems to change every year now. When I was there, we had 3 seperate teams all vying for different points on the field. Certain bunkers were worth points if you held them for a certain amount of time, and at the end of the two days, highest points wins!! You can go for one day, or two days (We did one). You get there, register, get on a team and then the battle starts. There are no different fields, just one huge one, and you can either reinsert yourself into the battle after being shot (After walking back to the MASH), or you can hop on a troop transport (At MASH) and get reinserted on the other side of field somewhere (Or evil option three, when you're on the FAR side and you get knocked out, you walk halfway back, and reinsert yourself with your team in a different battle). Its was basically all out war when I was there, and sooo much fun. You could walk around the woods by yourself, snipe, go with teammates, capture the bunkers, you name it, you could do it. There was also a mercenary team that could get hired depending on who wanted to shell out the most allotted fake money. I'd do it again if I ever had the time anymore.

I should clarify though, the 1200 number is total number of players over the whole weekend, not at one time. Still, there are TONS of guys out there.
