I am proud of the majority response of Icrontians here. Tim, this was not your intention, but thanks for bringing out the goodness in Icrontic :) And sorry for some of the harsh comments. But if you start the thread with "GTFO of my country" comment, what would you expect?

By the way, you don't own this country or have the right to decide about its future with more than one vote. Your citizenship is just a permit to live in here which you have inherited from your family without doing anything. Many of the immigrants did a lot more than you for this country to deserve their citizenship/residency. They have every right to preserve their decency, culture, and language. If you go through the names in the casualties of US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan, you will see so many Hispanic names that sacrificed their lives. If you want to feel important and essential, just do more than your share to elevate your status. You can not raise your status by discriminating others. Democracy and meritocracy made America what it is, not the white power.

I've heard on the radio lately that TWO THIRDS of Arizona residents support the new anti-illegal immigration law. So it's not just me. Maybe, just maybe, the people who live in Arizona and deal with the problems the illegals cause are better qualified to decide this matter than the liberals in other states? Possibly.

I also get a good laugh out of how the LA city council members and all the liberals in LA (apparently there's quite a few) are trying to cancel contracts with Arizona companies and boycott anything even remotely related to Arizona. If I had money to spare, I'd go out of my way to buy Arizona stuff to offset them. Their efforts will fade out eventually, but they are making real asses of themselves now for throwing a fit about it. :)

They are even suggesting not buying Arizona Iced Tea, which is made in New York. Liberals make it too easy for me to laugh at them sometimes.

    Tim,
What you hear on the radio is not truth, particularly if it's right wing talk.

    1. Popular support is not necessarily correlated with reasonable, enforceable, or constitutional legislation. There are LOTS of law enforcement in Arizona that won't be enforcing SB 1070 anyways.
    http://www.kgun9.com/global/story.asp?s=12386648

    2. This bill won't solve any of the problems from illegals. The recession is already reducing their numbers though. The "liberals in other states" aren't deciding anything for Arizona, but they are expressing their constitutional rights of free speech to protest and boycott.

    3. Maybe you're right and their efforts will fade out. However, if history is any guide, that won't be the case. The last time Arizona got boycotted, it was because they were being irrationally xenophobic and blatantly racist about MLK Jr Day. How did that work out for the state?
1991 - The NFL moves the 1993 Super Bowl site from Phoenix, Ariz., to Pasadena, Calif., because of the MLK Day boycott.
1992 - Arizona citizens vote to enact MLK Day. The Super Bowl is held in Tempe, Ariz. in 1996.
    http://www.infoplease.com/spot/mlkhistory1.html

    4. It's hysterical how you try to make the liberal moniker a negative. You can count yourself in the "fine" company of Rush, Sean, Glenn, Pat, Ann, and rinse and repeat your favorite right wing idiot. I contend that the Founding Fathers were Liberals and have NO problem being labeled a liberal.

I just LOVE how the Republicans keep alienating key electorates. Besides, my money is on Shakira!

that has to be the single most brilliant comic you've made yet.
  • edited May 2010
First of all, the boycotts are awesome for the sole fact that they're an example of consumers using their voices responsibly.
Second, most of the founding fathers easily considered themselves liberals, in the classic liberal sense. However, modern "liberal" and "conservative" parties have very little in common with the foundational elements of classic liberalism, just as neither actually aligns itself with the inherent qualities of conservativism.

This would be a most welcome change.

By the way, did Shakira sing for The Cranberries? I never noticed how much she sounds the same until just now.

NO and NO. Shakira >>> Brody Dalle. That's why she only needs one name.

Of note, I would choose Shakira over the entire state of Alabama as well as all of Arizona excluding Sedona and the Grand Canyon.

Agreed. Shakira makes me want to do "things" that are probably illegal in Alabama. Those "activities" would lead to me speaking words and phrases that wouldn't qualify as English and thus I wouldn't be able to drive there either...
