[b]Intel[/b]'s Components Research Lab is working on ways to replace copper wiring between motherboards and chips inside computers with faster, more energy-efficient optical fibre.
[blockquote]The lab has created a prototype system with chips connected to each other through eight optical channels transferring data at more than 1 gigabit of data per second for an aggregate bandwidth of over 8Gbps (gigabits per second). The individual channels, called waveguides, can transfer data at up to 3Gbps.

The [b]SCO Group[/b] plans to expand its [i]Linux[/i] legal attack on Tuesday by filing a lawsuit against a large company using the open-source operating system.

It has been reported that [b]Intel[/b] is expected to lower prices of some 865, 848 and 845 chipsets as planned on March 28, prior to volume deliveries of its 915 chipsets scheduled at the end of April.

[b]Apple[/b] has issued a memo to UK resellers regarding noise interference issues with the [i]Power Mac G5[/i].
[blockquote]One UK reseller told Macworld that the channel has received instructions from Apple suggesting ways in which noise associated with the Dual 1.8GHz Power Mac G5 can be reduced. According to the memo, noise is associated with external professional audio-equipment experienced in the form of "beeps and hisses". Apple is "willing to replace the power supply" for those experiencing such problems. However it notes noise will be "reduced, but not eliminated, even if the power supply is replaced". It goes on to say the noise may be "acoustic noise" associated with the power supply. In this instance Apple suggests "earthing" amplifiers and other relevant peripherals.

Five new variants of the [i]Bagle[/i] worm were released into the wild over the weekend, with two causing particular problems for enterprise antivirus software scanner technology, say experts.

It has been reported that [b]Intel[/b] has delayed general availability of its 90nm 3GHz [i]Prescott[/i] processors to April from the original schedule of mid-March due to production capacity constraints at its wafer foundry.

[b]Microsoft[/b] has confirmed it is working on an updated version of [i]Windows XP[/i], but the software giant is shying away from calling it an 'interim' product.

It's no shock news, but it has again been reiterated that the next service pack for [i]Windows XP[/i], will not contain antivirus software. The real question is though, why not?

A judge has accepted the [b]SCO Group[/b]'s changes to a lawsuit against [b]IBM[/b] that now seeks $5 billion in damages for [b]Big Blue[/b]'s alleged moving of Unix intellectual property into [i]Linux[/i].
[blockquote]The second amended complaint drops SCO's claim that IBM misappropriated trade secrets, but adds a charge of copyright infringement. SCO seeks $1 billion in damages for unfair competition and $1 billion for each of four allegations of breaching various contracts by which SCO licensed Unix to IBM and a company Big Blue acquired, Sequent.
