Gigabyte's 7NNXP NFORCE2 motherboard pulls away from the competition. The 7NNXP beat out the the enthusiast's favorite, the ASUS A7N8X, in 15 out of 19 of Short-Media's benchmark tests. Gigabyte continues to produce motherboards that challenge the leaders for performance. Their NFORCE2 platform brings a few unique additions including a Dual Power Voltage Regulator Module (DPVRM) and Dual Channel DDR across four DIMMs. Gigabyte also throws in their patented Dual BIOS and EasyTune4 along with Dual LAN and 6-Channel sound (NVIDIA SoundStorm including Dolby Digital 5.1).

DFI has raised the bar! The LanParty series of DFI motherboards puts an impressive package into the hands of the consumer including the FrontX device, 6-channel audio, Serial ATA, round cables and UV-reactive components on the motherboard PCB. DFI is out to get attention and they have stomped onto the market with a hefty hardware package. The "one upmanship" between manufacturers continues and DFI is the latest to raise the bar yet another notch.

Ask two people the same question and you'll eventually get 15 different answers. As previously said, part and parcel to a product's performance is company performance. Not everyone wants breakneck speed. PC buyers come with all sorts of questions and expectations. One company, Chaintech, has a firm foothold on one side of the planet but now have their sights set on the other and successfully marketing a product is based in understanding the consumer and successfully reviewing a product is based on examination of both the product and the company that makes it.

KT400A offers a few improvements but are they enough to battle the NFORCE2 motherboards? Gigabyte's KT400A predecessor, the GA-7VAXP Ultra, is a powerful and feature rich platform and is a hard act to follow. The KT400A may be dubbed "the little chipset that could." The question is why?

From time to time I get out from behind the front page and meander through my colleague's forums and front pages to see just what they are up to. In my "walkabout" I stumbled across a post showing how to softmod an ATI 9700 Pro to a 9800 Pro....for free! It's a no risk mod so why not? Along the way we tested out ATI's new Catalyst 3.2 drivers to see what they bring as well.

Indeed Chaintech deserves awards for the 7NJS. Almost every other hardware review tech site has bestowed their highest honors on this product. Site after site gives it a "Top choice" or "Editor's pick" but why? The 7NJS isn't the top performer or at least it isn't in Icrontic's battery of "straight out of the box" tests. Every motherboard has to be "dialed in" and this is no exception for the 7NJS but it's a different story when it is.

AMD is losing the public. They never really had them on the global or even the national scale; at least not in the traditional terms that the mass public would be familiar with. This may be a presumptuous statement considering that AMD is no slouch when it comes to providing marketing materials and information online, at events or to the media such as this site.
