Recently got a new microphone, nothing fancy just a basic model mic, however my laptop does not have a microphone jack. So I need to find a decent jack to USB converter, as to the specs.
1. Needs to fit a standard jack
2. Needs to be cheap but effective (I ain't made of money)
Any suggestions?

Joe's suggestion will work well. Just be sure to set your audio output correctly in the Windows sound panel. Should be able to easily set the USB stick as a recording device and your laptop's internal audio as an output.

Does your laptop have a webcam built in? That would have a microphone built in.

I have one of these. http://www.amazon.com/SIIG-CE-S00022-S1-USB-SoundWave-7-1/dp/B000OOG3N0
It works great. I got it for a server (no sound function or PCI slot) that I used for desktop Windows. It's been a few years, I think I paid < $20. To just add the mike, the $4 job looks like the one.
