Downtime today

We experienced a significant stretch of downtime today. We're still investigating the source, but we're pretty certain it isn't a hardware problem or a sudden traffic surge. We'll let you know more when we do.

I've temporarily disabled some of the site's plugins to ease load on the database, but IRC is back up and running.

We traced it to the Newest Posts plugin (which shows those 5 posts at the start of the forum index), which was doing too much work and in too many places due to some sloppiness on my part. When it found a new post with a ton of links to parse, things went south very quickly.

This, we believe, explains the very intermittent "database problems" we've been having over the last 6 months or so. It was actually a post with lots of links getting stuck in Newest Posts.

Nice to finally find the root of our issues; not so nice that it took most of the day to do so.

Ah, everything's under control, situation normal. Had a slight weapons malfunction, but ah....everything's perfectly alright now, we're fine....we're all fine here now, thank you - how are you?
