Sounds like your sound card is broke. I'm currently selling a M-Audio Revolution 7.1 for just $150. You could pick that up then your mp3's would work.

Have you checked under Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices -> Speaker Settings -> Advanced to see if you have the hardware setup of your speakers selected correctly (should be Quadraphonic for 4.1's).

Michael08, if you are trying to sell your sound card, I suggest you try placing a listing for it in the Short-Media.com "Deal Depot and Trading Post."

BTW, welcome to the forums

Ya, it's set as that... i get 4.1 in games and all that, just not while listening to mp3s. I've done the speaker test utility and i get sounds from all speakers.

Lightbulb Hmmm

I had the exact same problem with my SBLive! card when using Creative's drivers. When I went back to the MS WHQL drivers my rear channels returned.

Maybe try a different driver? I know that no one wants to stick with the "play-it-safe" windows standard drivers, but it might give you a lead while troubleshooting.

Must be winamp.

options -> preferences -> output -> direct sound output -> configure -> Check allow hardware acceleration.

As for my guess on the acronym: Thanks for the help.

Thrax was right! On the acronym, but on the problem: no. I just uninstalled my previous chipset drivers and installed the new 2.45's and mmm i'm enjoying surround sound. Souds so much better.
