    First off...welcome to Short-Media.

What is your budget for this? Movie files are 2D based and don't really use the 3D parts of a video card. IMHO MATROX has the best desktop imagery and are very good for dual monitor setups but Matrox cards are not favored by gamers.

I work in television and I would use Matrox cards in my non-linear edit suites along with a special hardware card for non-linear editing (Making movies).

The choice for you comes down to ATI or nVidia and your budget will determine which will deliver the best bang for your buck. (so that means...tell us what you'd like to spend)

Yeah, and the most important deciding factor is: Do you plan on playing the newest games with it (such as Doom 3, Half Life 2, etc.)?

If you don't game then there is no reason to spend more than $100.
An ATI 9550 or 9600 will do anything that you need and more. They look good and should last a long time.
You could get by with less of a card, but you never know what you will need next year and these will give you some growing room.
