[blockquote]The new chip comes in a variety of guises depending on the market segment a board maker wishes to target. There are versions aimed at compact or mobile implementations which feature on board graphics; nForce3 Go, which is already shipping. And then we have the versions aimed at drop in replacements for existing nForce3 150 designs, giving such boards a new lease of life with the new features. It's the 250 and 250Gb parts that will garner most attention from the online press and predictably that's what I'm looking at today.
We get 800MHz HyperTransport driven clock on all nForce3 250 products. 1000MHz support only appears in the Pro version of the chipset, for future processors. Parity in the up and downstream bus widths was a given, along with AGP and PCI bus locking if board makers implement it.[/blockquote]

[blockquote]While the public continues to speculate about ATI’s upcoming PCI Express and graphics plans, ATI’s CATALYST driver team has been busy cranking out new drivers. Each new release this year has added new features, whether its enhanced OVERDRIVE, newer MultiMedia Center software, or what was arguably CATALYST 4.2’s most popular feature, Direct3D setting enhancement, ATI’s most recent drivers have all contained something new to talk about.

Is your system too stable? Is your system annoyingly reliable? If you answered yes to both then this little trick may float your boat, or crash your ship, which ever way you look at it.
[blockquote]Windows-XP has a "feature" (???) with which it is possible to manually crash a system by simply holding the right CTRL key and pressing the "Scroll Lock" key twice. This feature can be turned on by the following steps:
1. Start regedit. (If you are unfamiliar with regedit, please refer to this FAQ)
2. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters
3. Create a new DWORD value and name it CrashOnCtrlScroll
4. Right-click on this newly created value and click on Modify
5. Enter 1 in the Value data field and click on OK.
6. Close regedit and reboot your system.
7. Now you can blue screen (crash) your system by holding the right CTRL key and pressing "Scroll Lock" twice.

[link=http://www.guru3d.com]Guru3D[/link] has put up a review of the new GeForce FX 5500 graphics card. Check it out!
[blockquote]NVIDIA is 'replacing' well ... renewing some of their products as we speak, among the new products is the GeForce FX 5500 well new ... When I first asked NVIDIA about the 5500 they seemed utterly surprised and asked me why I was reviewing a 5500. A tad weird. Hey it's a big market and NVIDIA sells more low- and mid-end products then high-end these days. So why not ? People want to know. So today dear friends we will be testing the all new and completely low-end product the GeForce FX 5500. Performance wise expect an overclocked GeForce 5200 yet a tad faster.

Besieged in Europe, where it recently has had to cease doing business in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, Lindows has submitted a motion to the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Washington asking the court to halt the flood of global trademark lawsuits Microsoft has filed against it.
[blockquote]"Microsoft is purposely delaying the U.S. case from going to trial while they use their monopoly profits to fund a global legal assault on our small company to halt the adoption of Linux," Michael Robertson, Lindows.com's CEO, said in a prepared statement. "The U.S. case has been ongoing for over two years and Lindows is looking forward to presenting extensive evidence to a Seattle jury demonstrating that 'windows' is a generic word and that Microsoft secured a trademark only by committing fraud on the trademark office." California City officials almost mistook water for a dangerous substance, and as a result almost banned foam cups.
[blockquote]City officials were so concerned about the potentially dangerous properties of dihydrogen monoxide that they considered banning foam cups after they learned the chemical was used in their production.
Then they learned, to their chagrin, that dihydrogen monoxide — H2O for short — is the scientific term for water.
"It's embarrassing," said City Manager David J. Norman. "We had a paralegal who did bad research."
The paralegal apparently fell victim to one of the many official looking Web sites that have been put up by pranksters to describe dihydrogen monoxide as "an odorless, tasteless chemical" that can be deadly if accidentally inhaled.

[blockquote][link=http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2004/0315/kaigai074.htm]PC Watch[/link] web-site claims that Intel’s code-named Merom microprocessor, which is also going to have a breed designed for desktop computers, will support all the latest techniques from Intel, including Intel Extended Memory 64 technology (IA32e), La Grande technology, Hyper-Threading technology, Vanderpool technology and some other features aimed to improve CPU performance and extend usage patterns of PC. The Merom microprocessor is expected to contain two or more processing cores and 4MB of built-in on-die cache, which is unbelievable size for desktop chips.
Processor code-named Merom was first mentioned as successor for Intel Pentium M CPU intended for mobile applications.
Merom and its desktop brother Conroe (2006) will be made using 65nm process technology and feature a new micro-architecture that will have a number of differences with NetBurst and Pentium M architectures used today. The architecture, though, will still be 32-bit in general.[/blockquote]

A Nvidia ForceWare 56.82 Win2k/XP driver, which originated from well known manufacturer Toshiba, has been made available on the web. They already modified the drivers to support all Nvidia videocards from TNT up to GeForce FX. Remember these driver are currently not official.
[blockquote]We can not validate the original source as we have not found the file ourselves just yet, we however did virus check the archive. I also did not have a chance just yet to test them myself. We recompressed them bringing them from 23mb towards a fantasic 14 Mb and that's including language files. These drivers need to be considered highly beta; thus use them at your own risk ! Please visit our NVIDIA drivers forum and let us know your experiences. In the upcoming hours we'll add the file to multiple download mirrors.[/blockquote]
