It has been reported that [b]Microsoft[/b] is working on security technologies for the upcoming [i]Longhorn[/i] release of [i]Windows[/i] that will protect users against security threats by monitoring system and network behavior as well as the security patches that the software giant has issued.

THOSE OF YOU WHO REGULARLY PERUSE the news here at TR probably saw [link=http://www.tech-report.com/onearticle.x/6311]this item[/link] about the Athlon XP-M 2500+ and its recently discovered overclocking potential. The chips have become so popular so quickly that their street price has jumped 33% in recent days. Of course, given the accounts of overclocking to 2700MHz "on air" (using only a heatsink/fan) it's no wonder they're so popular.
Needless to say, we couldn't sit this one out, so last week we ordered up an Athlon XP-M 2500+, and have spent the last 24 hours or so putting it through its paces. Read on to find out more about this overclocking wonder, and see how our particular chip fared.

The latest variant of the [i]Mydoom[/i] virus ([i]Mydoom.F)[/i], is still spreading and actively deleting files from victims' computers. This particular variant, though not as widespread, should still be considered a hazard simply because of its very destructive nature.

My company got hit... Virus Definitions were released early this morning, we updated our servers and desktops at 4:00 am. The new virus was received at 11:00 am and infected a few systems. Our gateways & servers were patched with the new Virus Definitions at 11:32 am. So... this variant moved rather quick. Just heads up.

I think this statement has been up for a week or so now, but since we're all going 64-bit crazy, here it is for clarification. It seems [b]ATI[/b] has no intention of releasing any form of 64-bit supporting drivers until [b]Microsoft[/b] has released its final production level 64-bit operating system. Currently, supporting drivers have only been made available to beta testers.

[b]Microsoft[/b] today showed off a forthcoming update to [i]Windows[/i], designed to make the operating system more secure.
[blockquote]During a speech at the RSA conference by Chairman Bill Gates, Microsoft previewed several new features, including an improved firewall that will be part of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP that is expected to ship later this year.
The company also showed publicly for the first time a Windows Security Center that offers a centralized place to view security settings and get advice on how to evaluate a PC's vulnerabilities.

The [b]European Commission[/b] plans to let [b]Microsoft[/b] choose how to solve [i]EU[/i] competition concerns to avoid breaching the company's intellectual property rights, a source familiar with the case said Tuesday.

[b]Microsoft[/b] and computer security vendor [b]RSA Security[/b] have announced that they will jointly release a new authentication technology using [b]RSA[/b]'s SecurID tokens to provide better password protection into [i]Windows[/i] operating systems.
[blockquote]Schnell said that corporate information technology departments would no longer have to adopt costly layers of authentication within their networks, such as separate passwords for expensing or Internet access, and could instead rely on a single user authenticated to a Windows program.

German mag [i]c't[/i] said it has evidence to suggest that virus writers are selling the addresses of computers infected with Trojan's to spammers.

The maker of DVD-duplication software ruled in violation of copyright law is nevertheless pledging to keep selling it, but without a built-in tool for de-coding movies.
