[b]Motorola[/b] today updated its G4-class PowerPC processor, the MPC7447, taking the part to 1.5GHz and paving the way for one more PowerBook G4 update the line before its upgraded to [b]IBM[/b]'s 90nm G5 chip, the 970FX.
[blockquote]At 1.42GHz, the chip consumes 20W of power, Motorola claims, which compares well to the 7447's 21.3W at 1.33GHz. The company also mentions a lower power version of the 7447A that consumes less than 9.3W at 1.167GHz, which seems no better than the old 7447's claimed 7.5W at 1GHz. The low-power 7447A has a core voltage of 1.1V; the regular 7447A runs at 1.3V.

A12 is the stepping of silicon that means that the chip is ready for production and that cards could be available much closer than planned, just depending on the marketing department saying yes.
[blockquote]The ATI Radeon 9800XT is still in the channel and ATI doesn't want to kill its sales numbers as there are quite a few of these cards remaining to be sold.
This information might get Nvidia concerned since its samples are just out but Nvidia won't start production before April as we reported before.

[b]Nokia[/b] has admitted that its games machine/phone, the [i]N-Gage[/i], is bombing.
[blockquote]Surely it makes sense to judge it after the Xmas sales have taken place? You can see that Nokia is strugggling to get the hang of this games thing.
It's hard to interpret Nokia's doublespeak on actual sales numbers but at best they appear to be running @ 25 per cent of what the company had dreamed to sell.

[b]Microsoft[/b] has concluded that the leaking of its [i]Windows 2000[/i] and [i]NT 4.0[/i] source code, doesn't appear to present an immediate security threat to the company or [i]Windows[/i] users.
[blockquote]Although the source code leak, discovered Feb. 12, won't change the way Microsoft shares some Windows code through its Shared Source and Government Security programs, industry watchers and users alike hope the company will learn from the leak and possibly consider the benefits of certain open-source concepts.

After eight months of deliberation, a San Francisco U.S federal judge has ruled that software company [i]321 Studios[/i]' popular DVD-copying products are illegal.

A posting by Linus Torvalds on the linux-kernel mailing list suggests that [b]Intel[/b] should be more than a little ashamed of itself when it announced its 64-bit extensions last week.
[blockquote]Torvalds was replying to a post which asked whether there was any difference between X86_64 and X86-64.
He said the real name for the instruction set should be X86-64, and always has been.
Torvalds said he was "a bit disgusted" at Intel for not even mentioning AMD in its documentation or its press releases. "I'd almost be inclined to rename the thing as AMD64 just to give credit where credit is due," he said. "However, it's just not worth the pain and confusion".

[b]Microsoft[/b] on Friday filed its formal response to [b]RealNetworks[/b]'s anti-trust lawsuit against it, denying allegations that it is impeding competition in the digital media market.
[blockquote]RealNetworks alleges in the lawsuit it filed in December that Microsoft illegally used its monopoly power to restrict competition and consumer choice in the digital-media space by forcing its Windows Media player on Windows users. Part of Real Networks' case is based on business conduct similar to what U.S. courts have declared illegal in other Microsoft antitrust cases, such as failure to disclose interface information and placing restrictions on PC manufacturers.

Nevertheless, the chip maker plans to begin running a number of new TV, print, online and outdoor ads geared towards increasing the adoption of its [i]Centrino[/i] notebook processor, with well, anyone who has a notebook.

Instead, the majority of notebooks equipped with Centrino or Pentium M have been purchased by businesses, according to analysts and PC makers. In an effort to keep its customers secure following the recent [i]Windows[/i] source code leaks, the software giant has turned to the lessons it learned while taking a two month hiatus in early 2002 to clean house and eliminate insecure code from [i]Windows[/i].

Since then, there have been numerous improvements in the security process, and code has continually been reviewed and updated for security," a Microsoft spokesperson told BetaNews. [b]Sharman Networks[/b], the owner and distributor of the [i]Kazaa[/i] peer-to-peer network, argued its case in court on Friday. The company went before the [i]Federal Court of Australia[/i] to argue against charges brought by [i]Music Industry Piracy Investigations[/i], a subsidiary of the [i]Australian Recording Industry Association[/i].
[blockquote]On February 6, the court granted MIPI an Anton Pillar order, which is often used in software piracy cases, against the owner of the Kazaa network, allowing for the search of Sharman Networks' offices. An Anton Pillar order gives an applicant the right to raid, without notice, the premises of the respondent and seize documentary or other evidence.
