Guys Ive had some people tell me none of the images work on my site. Others see them fine.

I know I modified the poop out of my htaccess file and thats why this is happening. What I need is for anyone who has a free few seconds to go to www.pirateninja.com, and the pirateninja.com forums. Let me know if you can see the images on the site and the forums.

More importantly, let me know if you cant. Then let me know if you use a proxy or a firewall.

kthx :D

I see images on the front page. I go to the forum and click a post, I see header images, avatars and smilies. It all seems to be working to me. I am using Zone Alarm pro and had no problem with the site.....except... why do some sites have a front page that does nothing but you have to click it to get into the actual site? Always puzzled me that.

Usually, it's a disclaimer of some sort. Which appears to be what it is in this case. :)

Everything seems to be working okay. All the images were visible. Including.....Naked Pirate Girl

Um, no images here, in Mozilla or IE modes of Opera:

Here is part of why, when I tried to open the image directly:

    Not Found
The requested URL /images/indexa_07.jpg was not found on this server.

Note, it is opening indexa.html for me to start, possible images did not get copied over from another folder that it uses also for another instance when less busy???

OTOH, IE 6.0 SP1 can see site, and gets same index set. At a GUESS, you are using layers, and Mozilla and Opera are not liking the layer order.

    Site works fine on Mozilla.......

The image is there, its just that I have my site set up very secure. Hotlinking of any sorts is not allowed, including pasting in an image address. The image has to be loaded from my html file, I am not using any dhtml btw.

The problem is Norton. Only people using Norton's firewall experience it. So, I guess I'll add some text navigation, but I'm not changing security. Norton users are sol :( in this case.

Well, Opera SANS Norton Internet Security cannot see it at all, only table frames and the "gay" pic. From Windows or Linux. The NAV bar, header, and pics on main page do not show up and the main page shows black background as the lead page gened that.... You could use ALTs and links to ALTs for rtext links, but Opera and Mozilla do not like frontpage extensions.

If you use Javascript, I have both 1.4.1_02 and 1.4.1_03 on board both the XP and the Linux box, but nothing earlier. This is Java 2, not Java 1.3.1 series or 1.2.1 series which is Java 1 Late beta or Java 1 straight.

But, you are using apache, so part of the problem might be an unidentified browser lockout.... ??? I BET that Opera 7.2+ is not in its stable of IDs, and Opera MASQs. Might be too secure... No proxy, firewall router, straight-through, VPN in force, and NAT in force. About half the possible UDP\TCP ports are router blocked, virus and adware and spyware security blocks mostly. Router emails me when it blocks, and daily also. the one thing, the whole feed, boht boxes, might be going through a full-fledged symantec 6450 on my ISP, as the ISP finally started protecting itself, and my router does not feed an ID name nor repsond to a ping, security on my end.

Only IE works, and it has so many holes I will not use it for much. Also, I do have a firewall router, but both boxes are behind it and only IE 6.0 in the XP box can get valid site feeds.

to clear this up here, my site does not use frames, and i do not remember if i have the borders on my tables colored or not. I do not use IE, I only have Operz 7.23 and Mozilla installed on my Win2k dev computer.

This is definetly not a browser issue, just a firewall issue. Im not sure on the exact configuration of my Apache, I do not run the box. I just have shell access.

I can tell you exactly why it isn't working with Norton Internet Security. The exact same reason that people with NIS cant use my games directories either.
NIS removes the referer from the browser when it loads pages (which is plain retarded) consequently, things which check for the referer (to check where the user is coming from) don't work.

Basically, there is nothing you can do until Norton stops being stupid, or people stop using it.

Ageek: The ALT code IS NOT a Frontpage extension, it's standard HTML code and should work on all browser. Javascript is run from the browser itself, not the installed 3rd party java program, as that is just for Java applets, not javascript, which again has nothing to do with it.

By the way, you are using Apache version 1.3.27.

Infact you need alt tagsto pass the w3c test. I dont bother with that though, by the way I updated the whole site, and now the front page includes a warning, along with a link to Symantec's site explaining how to fix this. Grrrr @ symantec. They need to stick to anti-virus and ghost, and thats it! =|
