Which of these five dual channel 2GB DDR2-800 PC6400 packs do you think are the best. I've already chosen the Cosair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB), but its gone up $50 in the last week!

Anyway, here are the five:
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB)
Super Talent 2GB (2 x 1GB)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB)
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB)
Corsair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB)

    Why the Crossfire-certified stuff?

Does it matter if it is Crossfire certified? I wouldn't buy it just for that, I was just wondering which is better.

Best in what respect? I thinkt the Super Talent is the best because it's the cheapest of the list and has the fastest timings. They probably all use the same chips anyway. If it comes with a decent warranty I'd probably get that one myself.

According to one review, the Super Talent uses Micron ICs. I suppose thats good. Super Talent's website states that they have a lifetime warranty, but so does Corsair, GSkill and OCZ.

I think I'll add this to my wish list. These will be going on the EPoX EP-MF570 SLI that I'll buy next month.

My pick would be between Patriot PDC22G6400LLK or G-Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ. I went and bought 2 x Patriot kits, for me they were the cheapest between the two and booted up to get into the BIOS on an Abit AW9D-MAX.

Patriot seems good, I chose the 1GB kit for a computer I might build for my brother if I can convince him that $730 with a 17" LCD monitor is cheap enough. (See here)

    Here's my wish list

I bought the BUFFALO Firestix 2GB (2 x 1GB) for my Core2 rig. They seem great so far and nicely priced.

I've heard that the G. Skill HZ memory overclocks real well too and will run at 1066 speeds with 2.2-2.4v vdimm. I heard that the chips are Micron D9's.

Lets see so far with the results:
    Super Talent - 1
    OCZ Platinum - 1
    Patriot - 1
    Buffalo - 1
    G Skill - 1

Just out of curiosity ...why no mushkin?
  • danball1976danball1976 Wichita Falls, TX
    edited December 2006
    Ok, then. What about this:
    mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) Timing: 4-5-4-11 - $279.99
    mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) Timing: 5-5-5-12 - $235.99

Although, previously, I have used the following on previous builds:
    256MB of Kingmax SDRAM TinyBGA PC150 (2x128) on ABIT KT7-RAID v1.01/AMD Duron 600@900MHz
    512MB of Kingmax SDRAM TinyBGA PC150 (2x256) on ABIT KT7A-RAID v1.30/1.4Ghz Thunderbird
    512MB of Kingmax DDRAM TinyBGA PC2700 (2x256) on ABIT KX7-333R/AMD Athlon XP2000+ 1.67Ghz
    1GB of Corsair XMS DDRAM PC3200 (2x512) on ABIT KD7-RAID/Athlon XP2600+ 2.08GHz

So, right now, there is one Kingmax module of NewEgg, a DDR667 module here. It has no heat spreader, so its been ruled out.

Yeah that'll work because the cost of the mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) Timing: 4-4-3-10 at $197 per stick is just too damb pricey!

How crazy is this, the 2GB pack of the Corsair ram went back down to its original price of $274! It was $328 yesterday. It is now the cheapest of the other 6 mentioned here. I started this thread because of the price increase. But at least if it does go back up I can refer back to this thread for what is a good alternate choice.

    In order of initial price:
    Corsair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $274 + Free shipping, $40 rebate ($234 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 88% (of 156 reviews overall)
    Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $276.99 + $4.99 3 day shipping ($281.98 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 85% (of 53 reviews overall)
    mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $279.99 + $5.64 3 day shipping ($285.63 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 100% (of 1 reviews overall)
    Super Talent 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $287.99 - $20 sale + $4.99 3 day shipping ($272.98 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 95% (of 22 reviews overall)
    Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $289.99 + $4.99 3 day shipping ($295.98 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 95% (of 20 reviews overall)
    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $304.99 + $4.99 3 day shipping ($309.98 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 90% (of 69 reviews overall)
    OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) - $309.99 + $4.99 3 day shipping, $45 rebate ($269.98 overall). 5&4 egg rating of 100% (of 5 reviews overall)

Wow. I checked this thread out because I'm about to buy a 2nd 1GB stick of Corsair XMS2. I was ignorant when it came to dual channel back in August when I built my new system and only bought one stick, leaving me with 1GB running in single channel... anyway... Back then this RAM cost $133 per stick. Now five months later the price has gone up to $138?!? How is that right?

It is right because of market conditions as well as supply and demand. There is most likely less RAM supply in the market than there was last year.

How about that the ICs for the RAM went up 200+% last June and the manufacturers are passing on the extra costs on to the end user.

    I am using the Kingston Hyper X PC6400. they're working fine :)
currently at 450MHz / 5-5-5-16.. they went as high as 460MHz stable for me. I would prefer the one with Micron Chips.
